  Birdie is a GoWiRaTh. That's an acronym for Gold-Winged Raptor-Thaedrom. A thaedrom is a group of species which evolved from prehistoric dragons crossed with birds. I know it sounds like an impossible combination, but thaedroms are a very common family on Kazhla, Birdie's home planet. There are thousands of species, from the catlike Mynas to the vicious RaThs, or Raptor-Thaedroms. RaThs, especially GoWiRaThs, are so strong, swift, and intelligent that they have driven all humans out of some smaller continents.
  
  Gold-Winged Raptor-Thaedroms are called gold-winged not for the color (The color varies infinitely, from blue to silver to orange to black. Some GoWiRaThs, like Birdie, do have gold wings.) but because their feathers have exactly the same hardness as gold. Gold is a relatively soft metal that melts at low temperatures, but RaTh feathers can't melt, so they make a pretty effective armor. You would think that the feathers would be heavy, but they are very light: All of the feathers on a GoWiRaTh's body weigh less than a pound all together.
  
  GoWiRaThs are one of the rarest species of RaTh in the world. Humans once hunted them for their amazing feathers, which were made into decorative shields and fans. Now GoWiRaThs are only found on one continent, but their numbers are rising again for there are very few humans on this continent, and they have made a peace treaty with the Raths. RaThs have formed simple cities and societies, for they are very intelligent.

• Appearance

  Birdie is built like your typical raptor dinosaur. She only is tall enough to look a ten-year-old in the eye, but she is much longer, reaching nearly 9 feet from nose to tail. She stands on her hind legs, leaving her front ones free to pick things up, and she has a long, tapering tail, which, unlike the tails of the actual dinosaurs, can bend and flex freely.
  
  She has two large, golden-feathered wings which sprout from just behind her arms. Her wings, when fully extended, measure about 18 feet from tip to tip. She also has a matching plume of gold feathers at the tip of her tail. She uses this plume to steer while she is in flight and to smite people who bother her.
  
  Her body is covered in scales, not feathers. Her scales are mainly black, but her underbelly and the underside of her neck and tail are white. She also has three white stripes on her back, right between her wings and her tail. Her face has a marking on it that is unique to her; it looks like a curving wave or a ribbon. Every GoWiRaTh has a different facial mark.

• Personality

  Birdie has a very split personality. She wasn't abused in her past like most Mary Sues depressed characters, but she's definitely messed up quite a lot in making her decisions, and these things have affected her in ways that run too deep for healing. This makes her rather gloomy and pessimistic sometimes. She can be grumpy and irritable when she starts to drown in memories, and sometimes she can be downright depressed.
  
  But Birdie has a reasonably good life at the moment, for there is nothing a RaTh likes more than traveling with a group of close friends. And she knows that her life is better than the lives of many other RaThs. If she can manage to look past the shit in her past, she can be a very happy raptor.
