  Handsome, flawless, perfect. All of these words have been used to describe the man that is Marius Catherwood. From his tall stature to how perfectly cut face, everything about the man just reeks fame and ego. He turns and beams, his perfect teeth gleaming in the light. His spotless complexion betrays no flaws. As a perfect nose, a perfect chin, a perfect cheekbone, and of course, dimples (because what handsome hunk of Wizard isn't better without dimples?). Of course, Marius wasn't always this perfect, but a little well placed magic helped change all of that.
  
  Always seen in the most expensive and most fashionable of wizarding-wear, Marius always makes sure he looks stunning, absolutely perfect all of the time.

• Biography

  Born to his parents Felicia and Darren in a suburb of Dublin, Marius was never truly satisfied with his dull life. He lead an average wizarding childhood in an average wizarding home. Ignoring the fact that, you know, he was a wizard, he found his life to be boring. As a child, he was fascinated by Muggle archaeologists, making discoveries about the past and finding brilliant treasure. Young Marius fantasized about being an explorer to find uncharted lands and hidden treasure. When he received his letter to Hogwarts he went to Diagon Alley and purchased his school supplies. His wand, was crafted by Ollivander, who seemed to know his future personality, described his it as "Aspen with Basilisk Skin, a rare combination, very haughty, very proud, particularly good for charms."
  
  When he arrived at Hogwarts he was sorted into Hufflepuff. He often remarked that it was because he simply didn't fit anywhere else. He wasn't brave enough to be in Gryffindor, wasn't smart or clever enough to be in Ravenclaw, and wasn't a big enough tool to be in Slytherin. Determined not to be the butt of ridicule, he set out to model himself after his idols, storybook explorers. He studied History of Magic intensely and it soon became a passion of his. He sought to be dashing, witty, charming, and handsome, like his idols. Over the years he would change his appearance with transfiguration, removing his freckles (but keeping his red hair, feeling it defined his heritage) making himself taller, more handsome, straightening his teeth, and improving his physique. While originally frowned upon by his family, they deemed it for the best and found him to be much happier in his new state. By his seventh year he had completely changed, and become extremely popular and well liked, a star Chaser, and Head Boy of Hufflepuff.
  
  After graduating from Hogwarts, he applied at the Ministry of Magic, hoping to find a job with adventure and mystery, but he was turned down by the Auror office and every international board. He was accepted, however, as an unspeakable in the Department of Mysteries, where he worked for four years. Though he could never speak of what he did, he worked heavily with magical research and greatly increased his magical prowess and ability. After four years, he retired with a vastly increased knowledge of Magic. Unsatisfied with his life, on a whim he applied at Gringotts for a curse-breaker career, and was accepted (he later learned it was because the Department of Mysteries sent them an Owl essentially saying they weren't allowed to turn him down). In his new position as a curse-breaker, he found he was finally doing the thing he loved, and was truly quite good at it.
  
  For a year, Marius Catherwood traveled the world working for Gringotts, unearthing Egyptian tombs, Grecian temples, Italian villas and more. His skill and quick thinking made him somewhat famous in the curse-breaker community. But, it wasn't to be. Marius loved unearthing treasure, both physical and historical, but he hated seeing goblin extractors descend on the historical treasures he had found, only to desecrate historical and archaeological sites. He quit his job and moved back home to Dublin.
  
  After quitting he penned a tell-all memoir about his time as a curse-breaker, which while not particularly revealing of anything new, was a surprisingly good read and amassed him a small fortune. From then on he worked as a freelance curse-breaker of sorts, exploring and discovering. He quickly became famous after discovering the remnants of a small Wizarding empire in Greece in the form of tombs of three great wizards, who were revered by Grecian muggles as gods and were given exquisite burial grounds.
  
  After advisory by his publisher, he decided to write a book recounting his adventures in Greece. Lauded by reviewers for it's rich storytelling, humorous anecdotes, and historical musings, it became an instant success. Using the money made from this book deal, he traveled to Egypt in search of more historical and archaeological finds. Following an ancient lead from a tablet in an American museum, he went on a hunt for the Library of Alexandria, or at least, what was spirited away before and during it's destruction. After months of blistering heat and toil, crawling through ancient ruins of Egyptian cities, he found the Chamber of Black Soil, and underwater vault where the last vestiges of the obliterated Brotherhood of the Nile stored their works, spanning dozens of topics, muggle and wizarding. The Chamber had also grown, as more lost works were found and stored before the Brotherhood finally faded away.
  
  Capitalizing on his find and auctioning off the scrolls, he took the time off to pen another book about his adventures. But his time in Egypt wasn't done. Among many of the scrolls and books he found, were a number of diaries which appeared to document some planned coup. Pursing this lead him on a journey through Thebes, and lead him to discover an ancient conspiracy to purge Egypt and make it a pureblood wizarding society, beginning with a silent coup of the Pharaoh. Culminating in a dungeon trawl through the catacombs of the Great Pyramid of Giza, Marius found the conspirator's hideout, subtly added to the Pyramid and undetected by muggle archaeologists. He found mounds of amassed gold and treasure to fund the conspiracy, and the bodies of the three conspirators, goldsmiths from Thebes itself. He deduced from writings and investigations that in the last days before the plan was to be set in motion, the conspirators turned on each other and ended up killing each other.
  
  Again writing another book about his discoveries, Marius had now become insanely famous and wealthy. He bought a French villa and settled down, moving into the countryside to avoid the public eye every time he stepped outside. But his career would still be his priority. After a few small treasure finds, he solidified his wealth for his lifetime. One day while out in the vineyard adjacent to his villa, he accidentally uncovered a chest, digging it up, he found numerous documents, papers, pictures, maps, and more. A name that kept popping up throughout was Lucius Cicero, which through a bit of research, Marius found was an ancient roman senator who mysteriously disappeared. And who took his entire estate with him. Intrigued he set out to find Lucius Cicero's lost villa. On the way, he discovered that Lucius had been kidnapped by dissenters of the Roman Empire, and was held for ransom. Lucius told them that anything in his enormous opulent estate was theirs for the taking. When they arrived, though, the villa was gone, and so was Cicero, never to be seen nor heard from again. Following clues left in artwork claimed to be commissioned by Cicero after the incident, Marius followed the cryptic trail all the way to the small Italian village of Saturnia. After four days of constant charmwork, jinxes, hexes, and various spellcasting, Marius managed to break what he called "arguably the most powerful enchantment I have ever seen," and revealed the stunning mansion of Lucius Cicero, still in pristine condition, having been enchanted to care for itself an provide upkeep. Marius still to this day calls it one of his greatest discoveries, and he continues to study it for it's autonomy enchantments.
  
  Riding the tide from that discovery, and of course, the money stream from it's accompanying book, Marius decided to tackle something more ambitious. Spanish legends from the Reconquista had spoken of a healer known only as Sanaron, who healed entire armies again and again and turned the tide of the war to the favor of the Spaniards. Marius felt that if he could find the staff of Sanaron, perhaps it's powerful healing enchantments could be replicated, and of course, it would provide a nice boon to his fame and his wallet. He travelled to Barcelona, studying folklore and crawling through catacombs to find clues until he found a diary that pointed him to Córdoba, the supposed final resting place of Sanaron. Eventually infiltrating the tomb of Sanaron he was faced with a number of puzzles and riddles until he reached the resting chamber where he faced his final challenge, Sanaron himself. Sanaron feared his staff would be taken and used to conquer the world, so instead of passing on he stayed to protect it. After a long battle, both linguistically and physically, Marius finally triumphed over the healer and claimed the staff as his own, and has yet to let it leave his ownership, he has allowed it to be researched but keeping with Sanaron's wishes, will never part with it, and will never use it unless it is a last resort.
  
  After creating protection for the staff, Marius resigned to rest from his career for a year. Taking the time to study many of his finds when he discovered in his scrolls recovered from the tomb of Hermes writings of Daedalus, arguably the greatest inventor and artificer of Muggle and Wizarding history. Following the trail back to Rome, he discovered records of many of Daedalus's works being moved from his home in Greece to what would later become Venice. Following clues and puzzles laid across the city of Venice, Marius searched for the scrolls. Also on the trail was a scholar and dark wizard Strego. Known as the scourge of Siana, Strego had become infamous when he burned a huge swath through a small village outside Siana, killing half of the residents and scarring the earth, all in search of a powerful ancient artifact. Now having heard the whispers of Daedalus' lost scrolls, he began to search Venice as well. After many encounters across the city, both of their searches culminated in the same place, La Fontana Della Mano D'Argento (The Fountain of the Silver Hand) in the wizarding district of Venice. In the grand chambers beneath the fountain, Marius and Erudito dueled for hours, until Marius overcame Erudito with a simple cross-eye hex, allowing him to disarm the dark wizard and bring him to submission. Along with this, he found every lost scroll, completely intact. Instead of keeping them for himself though, he donated them to the scholarly world, saying, "I have enough knowledge now, let others have it."
  
  Now fully content with his life, and pursuing his own conquests, Marius again sought out a legend. Or at least, a half-legend. In the Caribbean, there was a harbor town known as Port Noble, which was the center of both trade and culture for the wizarding community in the New World. It was poised to become the capital of the wiazarding world, when one day it disappeared without a trace, where there was once a bustling Port Town, there was only water and beach. Nothing could be found proving the town ever existed aside from trade logs, writings, and eyewitness accounts. Marius thought this was the mystery for him to solve. Most legends and theories surrounding Port Noble involved the mysterious Bell Tower Peak, the lighthouse atop the cliff surrounding Port Noble, but it had never been found. Marius began to travel the Caribbean, in search of clues. He found diaries and artifacts handed down through families and in thrift stores.
  
  He eventually narrowed down the colony's former location to be somewhere in Jamaica. And for three months he searched the coast. He eventually fell in with a woman, and after a few lustful encounters with her, discovered her to be the leader of a werewolf tribe, that wanted to... induct him. After a confrontation, he went on the run. For three days he fled and fought, incapacitating most of the tribe until he was cornered one night on a cliff. Fighting back under the full moon, he heard a whisper in his head that told him if he sought sanctuary it would be his. And then (as it appeared to his pursuers) he disappeared. When in reality he had just been given access to the enchantments guarding Bell Tower Peak. The lighthouse was protected by numerous illusions and shields, and Marius waited until the daytime, then emerged again to defeat his pursuers and claim victory over the werewolves. Now having found the location of Port Noble, he set to find the town itself. Inside the lighthouse he found numerous diaries of a woman, all pointing to the idea that the city had been engulfed by the ocean.
  
  Pursuing this theory, Marius cast numerous enchantments, and dove down, down down, deep into the ocean, wearing an amulet he had found in one of the diaries. When he finally reached the seabed, the amulet glowed, and the enchantment retreated, revealing the sunken city itself. Perfectly preserved by magic it was a sight to behold. After publicizing his discovery, Marius began a project to raise Port Noble, and restore it as a historical sight and a bustling Wizarding community.
  
  All was going well for Marius until the Catherwood-Murlock Incident at the ministry, where his younger brother Marcus and a conspirator name Bryan Murlock, became determined to bring down the ministry, literally. Hoping to start a wizarding revolution with a terrorist statement to the public, the two set out a plan, and almost collapsed to ministry building, before they were stopped by aurors, but not before destroying a few offices and killing a secretary. After their capture they said some very inflammatory things and were sentenced to life in Azkaban The harsh public eye was then cast on his family, and the populous was beginning to turn on him, so he made the decision to step out of the limelight for a few years, and took up a teaching job as the Charms professor at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
