Recently my friend and I started developing an RP community that seems to be growing by the minute, and we'd like to be able to recognize the contributions and kindnesses of our community members. On top of the many suggestions I'd received I also thought that being able to give our members something to display proudly on their RPRs or in their character widgets would be nice.
This way groups could do monthly or seasonal awards like MVP, Most Open RPs Hosted, Most Influential Character, etc. As with Kudos, the RP community at large would be able to see and recognize the contributions of the individual (or their character). It could even become an interesting tool for IC events like fighting tournaments and promotional content if there's a character trophy case widget.
Right now I just give neat pixel art tags for people to slap into their pages in a similar manner, but without any official recognition sans maybe a forum post. Kudos have served pretty well too, but they're not as specific or "shiny".

This is definitely something I have thought about and would like to offer at some point!
However, group-awarded accolades would almost certainly only be visible in the group that awarded them. Otherwise, someone could start a group and then award themselves endless accolades for nothing. Moreover, if we allowed groups to customize what their awards looked like, and they decided on something that exceeded the pg13 rating, it could cause trouble on the other parts of the site.

I'm not worried about being able to design them personally (should fit into RPR's own stuff, aye?), but having group accolades (or some other sort of formal award system that can be shown off) would be pretty durn spiffy. Maybe the groups widget could be modified to show that so-and-so has gotten x awards from this or that group?
Group leaders being able to design and upload their own would be fantastic, especially in the way of getting the symbolism to match the group theme. For instance very angular tech objects for science fiction roleplays.
I am definitely in agreement that the accolades either need to be restricted to being viewable by the group, or need to be content controlled. The latter option is far too time-consuming in my opinion.
