A loud shrill sounded from the forest followed by the thudding sounds of trees falling. A woman, running into the open, fell and rolled to a stop. Thunder flashed in the night and the rain poured down on her. Kaytee groaned and tried to stand, her white hair sticking to her face and her pink eyes wide with fear. How did it come to this? She was trained and careful, and yet none of that helped her.
The creature, a big black mass of swirling smoke. Rows of glistening white teeth contrasted against its face as huge red eyes laughed at her demise. She screamed as it leapt at her, clutching her up in its claws and running toward the portal it emerged from. "No! Let me go!" Kaytee shreaked and tried cutting through its grasp, only making it squeeze tighter.
Why? Why had the priests abandoned their duties? Because of them, the beast of Hell roamed earth. Killing anything that moved. But for some reason it hadn't killed her yet, not like it had killed her comrades, Helen and Derma. The image of their blood running from its mouth was still fresh in her mind. Where was it taking her?
