It had been a year since queens Midna and Zelda had began their campaign to patch up relations between their people, and progress was slow. The bloody border skirmishes had stopped at least...but now people were attacking with insults and black face paint. Racist hylians put paint on their faces to resemble the twili markings and sulked around acting like dishonest thieves or psychotic sorcerers. Queen Zelda was trying to get her royal council to see that as hate crimes.

Nothing like that had happened tonight as far as he knew, but Umbren still needed a drink. The twili man was guard captain back home in the Twilight Realm, but on the other side of the border, he was one of many knights who worked to keep the peace. Queen Zelda had hired him in hopes that he'd be able to change the mindset that so many hylians had. He was the only twili for now, and it was part time since Queen Midna needed him too. And it was running him ragged...some nights worse than others.

He walked into Telma's Bar, leaving his sword strapped to his waist just in case. He sat down at the table where Telma, the bartender, took orders. The plump hylian woman looked up and frowned. "You look sad."

"Not sad, tired." Umbren told her. "I had to use magic to catch a bank robber and lots of it. Fastest man I've ever seen..."

"Oh. One day I'll figure out how to read moods on those pupil less eyes of yours, I swear!" Telma was a good woman. She had been nervous around Umbren and his people at first, but everyone had been. Just not everyone stopped being nervous or fearful.

Umbren smiled. "Well, you were close...our eyes turn a dull shade for both sadness and tiredness." He pulled out some rupees and placed them in front of her. "My usual, please."

Upon a small crest about not fsr from the city, sat a short elven woman. She was a foreigner around these parts, though she called no place home. The traveler sat in a muddy cloak, draped upon a rusted, loose suit of armor.

After a short rest, the elf rose. This was Suyana, Suyana the wanderer, who was bound for great things, though she saw nought of it, and only sought coin and adventure.

Suyana headed into a town where relations seemed rather tense, all the worse to stay hidden. She entered the town with a few odd glances, though nothing out of the ordinary. She was a newcomer, and always treated this way. Thr only thing to ever change were the stories over a brew, and the brew itself.

The traveler wasted little time, making a beeline for a tavern. Her senses had become keen in this cause, finding rest was now as simple as breathing.

The young elf still hid her face, entering the tavern. The usual mutter or chatter was lacking, and thus more attention drawn to her. She attempted to hide herself, sitting away from the larger congregations, situating herself by a small table.

No sooner than Telma had brought out the ale, Umbren's ears pricked and his red eyes literally flashed. "You!" He was up and staring down the man who had just walked in. "You're supposed to be in custody!"

The man gave him a sly smirk. "Can't a guy go out for a drink?"

"Wipe that grin off your face. Do I have stupid written across my forehead?" Telma's gaze burned into the back of his neck. He sighed and turned to her. "This is the bank robber! How he got here I have no idea."

"It's something called bail! It's like what the gods did for your kind, only with money!" The bank robber taunted.

"I will be talking to the rest of the knights about that." Umbren growled.

"Oh, please. We both know you're not a knight. The queen just says you are. Go back to your dingy little shadow land where you belong-EEP!" Umbren had grabbed the man by the shirt collar. Sparks swirled around his free hand. "And YOU need to go back to jail. Where you belong. Don't make me blast you into smithereens."

The elf glanced at the scene, turning away. "I would hardly call that justice." Muttered the elf, barely audible. This was not shocking to her, only unexpected.

It was clear that this man was a racist, this the cause of the others rage, or only an aide to it.

Umbren's ears pricked again, the whole room was staring. "Well, uh..." He muttered before releasing the man. "I'll let you go for now, but I will be asking if you're supposed to be out. If not..." He gave the man a stern glare. "You'll be sorry."

"I'm going somewhere where I won't be pinned down. I WAS bailed out by a friend..." The man grumbled, turned, and walked out. Umbren shook his head and returned to his seat. Exhaustion was taking a toll on his temper.

"I would hardly call that justice." Came a female voice from nearby.

Umbren turned, the woman looked extremely foreign. "I apologize for that scene. There's been some...civil unrest lately. It doesn't do well for tourism. I'm surprised you even came here because of that..."

The elf listened keenly, but made no reaction to his comment, idly sitting for a moment.

After a moment she spoke again. "I have seen far worse, and passed through worse off countries." She waved over the barkeep, for her thirst grew as the moments dragged on.
