Conner McAlister (played by Ambrosia)

Have you ever been in a situation where everything slows down and you feel like you're looking through someone else's eyes?
A million different questions and answers go through your mind but at the same time your brain is blank. God save us now, I'm getting Piper out or so god help me I'm going to die trying

It all started when the lines went dead, everything became unusually quiet. There wasn't a car on the road which made Conner really uneasy. His daughter, Piper saw the look on his face and held his arm tight, slightly afraid of the silence. People stood around them but they seemed to be listening.

What were they listening for?
Conner concentrated. At first it sounded like an earthquake but where were the tremors?

"Daddy?" Piper murmured "what's wrong?" the 7 year old asked hiding behind her father from an unseen and unknown enemy. Conner just continued to listen, the sound changed into screaming and groans. The cross roads 30 feet from them was almost instantly flooded with people. Conner's eyes widened and the fist thing he did was pick up Piper and run the opposite way. He peered over his shoulder for a second and saw people tackle and eat other people. He couldn't stop no matter what he saw, he had to get Piper to safety.

Conner ran into the Evergreen Shopping Mall and took cover in the back room, locking the door behind them "Daddy?" Piper asked now frightened, her eyes wide and teary.
"It's okay baby, stay close to daddy" Conner replied in a whisper pulling his daughter close.

What on earth is happeneing?!
Elise Moore (played by Crystie78)

Everyone would remember it as the day their lives changed forever. When their day started, however, it was like any other day. Had they known it would be their last normal one, how would they have done it differently?

Like everyone else, Elise was doing what she would normally do on a Friday night. She was spending her time at the mall, throwing outfits together for the new rave downtown. She already had her arms full of bags containing a lot of alcohol, a bag of medicine to cure her inevitable hangover, condoms, snacks, and an assortment of party accessories ranging from silly string to inflatables. “Yeah no I’ve got the goods! No, shut up! I am not going to get all skanky with John again that was like, one time. Or three, I can’t remember.” She laughed as the threw the bags over her shoulder. “Look I’ve got to get out of here before they get pissed again. Everyone’s getting ready to close shop and they will not wait even one second for me to find what I want,” she locked eyes with an irritable worker before sneering at her. “Jess just grab the mixers and—what the hell?” Mid-sentence, the line cut dead. There was no dial tone to follow, just silence. Groaning, she snapped her phone shut and looked back over to the worker. “You’re guys’ service sucks ass in here. How am I supposed to get anything done if I can’t…are you even listening to me bitch?” She marched over to the worker who had her eyes on something outside.

“Your boss is going to flip when I fill out the survey on you,” She sneered before glancing out the window. What she saw quickly drew her attention back to the window. At first the thought it must be some kind of sandstorm. There was no way there could have been that many bodies flooding towards her. As they drew closer though, and the sparkles she thought were sand rained down red, she knew they were bodies. Bodies devouring other bodies. She hardly heard the worker scream before turning from her and looking around the shop. Oh shit, oh shit.

“Hey shut up alright! You think those guys are going to keep them entertained for long? We got to seal this place up, and we have to be quiet!” She screamed over the lady, dropping her bags to grasp her shoulders. “Can you get that metal gate down? That might hold them off.” The worker took her sweet time calming down before she quickly nodded, shaking as drew the metal gate down and locked it in place. “Now get those lights off!” Elise commanded, grabbing a bottle of alcohol from her bag and slipping behind the counter as the lights went off. The light from the hallway of the hall illuminated the entrance to the store, but from behind the counter the two would be hidden. The girls crouched together, shivering from fear, as screams began to vibrate around them.
Ember had decided to go to the mall today just to go, she never had a real reason for anything, she was wearing her usual green contacts as she looked through the many stores. She had found a lot of stuff she wanted to buy yet was disappointed when she had no money for it. She had started to walk out of the mall when she saw a gruesome scene ahead of her, people tackling each other and taking huge bites of flesh from their limbs, the screaming ringed in her head.

She shook her head hard and ran back inside, she ran into one of the bathrooms and locked herself inside alone, sitting in the corner farthest from the door and covering her ears in hopes to quiet the screaming, her heart pounded against her chest with terror, she couldn't believe this was happening

"Wait right here baby" Conner whispered taking Piper to the back corner of the store room "daddy is going to be right back" Piper held onto him like a vice.
"Daddy please don't leave me" she whimpered a reply burying her face in his arm "I'm scared"
"It's okay baby, I promise I won't let anything happen to you" his voice sounding as reassuring as he could muster, he'd have to survive for this little gem, he can't leave her alone in a world like this. Conner kissed her forehead one last time, wiping a stray tear from her rosy cheeks.

Conner searched everywhere for some sort of weapon he could use. He wasn't going to be cannibal food if he could help it. Quietly turning the back room of the store over, he finally found something he could swing. A wooden baseball bat sat on a pile of clothing besides an inventory computer. Could this be luck? If he was lucky he wouldn't be stuck in this shitty situation.

Conner opened the door of the back room ever so gently. It looked clear so far. One last check over confirmed so.

He scouted on ahead , shutting the door behind him. The bat raised over his shoulder waiting to splatter brain matter all over floor. He peered over the store's exit. They were on the second floor and except for a few groans down below, it seemed safe to traverse the upper floor.

He retrieved Piper and kept low, she held onto the hem of his shirt, scared of the noises she heard. Conner crossed a bridge through the middle of the mall to the other end and heard whispers. He hugged the wall and slowly edged closer to the shop entrance.

He saw 3 women, 2 of whom seemed way too scared to do anything. They both ignored the girl with the alcohol and hid behind the counter.

Conner took Piper's hand and led her into the store "we're friendly" he said just loud enough for them to hear.

The metal gate kept the strangers at bay. Elise was glad she could get... She glanced down at the worker’s badge… Amber , to close the gate in time. Holding her bottle of vodka as a weapon she stepped around the counter. Sure, it wouldn’t do much damage, but it was the heaviest thing she had at the moment. She took a moment to take in the strangers’ appearances. With the lights off it was hard to tell, but it seemed to be a young man and a little girl, tears slowly streaming down her cheeks. She shuttered, she was never good with kids.

“Have you guys seen what’s going on out there?” She hissed, trying to keep quiet. She took a few steps closer to the gate and looked them over. He did have hit a bat, but if she could get Amber out of her shocked state the two of them could overpower him if he chose to pick a fight. “Well come on, you guys can’t stay out there,” She stooped down to unlock the metal gate from the floor and quickly ushered the two inside, her bottle still clutched in her hand. Once inside, she locked the gate behind them and stole a glance out the window. The herd was quickly running out of prey, and was advancing on the mall.

“Do you think they’ve made their way in here yet? Jesus, do you think there are more people stowed away in here? How are we going to get past that with...” She looked down to her hands and held up her bottle pathetically. “These?! ” Realizing she was the only one without some sort of weapon, Amber crawled around on the floor looking for anything she could defend herself with. She ended up finding a long metal pole used for pulling down the gate.

Conner took piper behind the counter and placed her on a chair "Stay here sweety" He looked at her with a reassuring smile. He placed the bat besides her chair "Take care of this for me, monkey"
"okay" Her voice was barely a whisper. He could see she was scared and having him around made it easier for her. Conner hugged her gently, she placed her head softly on his shoulder. She tried her hard to stay strong, as strong as a 7 year old can be. Her strength gave him strength.

He turned to Elise "We came from out there. I don't know what I saw but it looked like people just flooding into the streets like an ocean wave. I didn't stick around to see what happens after that, I have my daughter to think about" He ran a hand through his hair and took a deep breath "I have an idea about what this could be... I just hope it isn't, that bottle definitely won't help" he said pacing. His attention was stolen by the smoke outside the window of the shop. There weren't any windows in the previous store. "Don't get up from the chair Piper" He said to her as he approached the window.

His eyes widened from the shock of of what he saw. It was like any zombie movie except... it was happening... Dead bodies littered the streets like pieces of discarded meat. Their innards lay besides them, some even had their arms and legs chewed apart. there weree some cars with blood splattered on the inside of the wind shields "shit..." he said under his breath. He saw someone trying to sneak out of their apartment building and kicked something causing the nearby Hordlings to turn their attention to the person. The Hordlings spared no minute to chase him down. Their legs carrying them like a normal human. It was nothing like the movies. They ran like humans.

"We're as safe as can be in here but we need to secure this mall as fast as possible"

“And how do you supposed we do that with…” She looked around “A baseball bat, a poker, and coat hangers?” She took a couple of deep breaths. No need to get at each other’s throats. It was going to take all of them if they had any chance of making it out of here alive.

“Sorry, I’m just nervous. Can you blame me? Name’s Elise by the way.” They were going to need to be able to communicate sometime or another. She put her hand to her head as she thought.

“Wait, I think there’s a pawn shop on the bottom floor. I don’t know if they have any firearms or anything stronger than what we have here, but it’s worth a shot. They might even have walkie talkies or something,” She drew her head back up.

“You can bet the majority of those things will be down there though. It might be a death sentence to even go check it out. Maybe we’ll find some other survivors in here? Then maybe we can lock this place down! The other shops will have the metal gates like this one, and maybe we can find some materials to lock this place down. You would think someone would be sending help right? Like, the military has to have wind of this shit and will be sending reinforcements right??” She looked out the window as if expecting to see a tank driving through the desolate streets. In the movies help never came, but this was real life and there was no way they were going to leave them for dead….Right?

Elise made her way to the gate and peered out. The lights in the hallway were beginning to flicker as if someone was messing with the power-box. Or maybe the people who tended to the power had been killed as well? At the very end of the hall she could just make out the outline of a person. Whether they were friendly or foe she didn’t know.

“If we leave here we’ll have to keep quiet,” Her eyes lingered back to the little girl. “Will she be okay? She’s not going to cry out and give us away will she?” She whispered to the man.

Amber made her way off of the floor and went to the gate, ready to unlock it if they needed. She however, was not going anywhere. Where else would be safe but right behind these bars!

"Don't worry about her" he replied to Elise "She is stronger than any of you can imagine" normally she was but in this situation, how has he sure he was ready to come face to face with a Hordling?

Conner picked up his baseball bat "The bat and the poker are better than a few bottles but if you really want to survive then you should keep your nerves in check" his eyes were hard, cold even. He was really protective of Piper as any father would be.

Maybe he should be nicer, if they're in this together then they should work together "Let's forget about it but just leave my daughter to me" he stood by the gate "My name's Conner" If they were going to try to survive, she should know his name "the pawn shop is at the other end of the mall, if we wanna get there we need to be quiet, stay close and watch my back" he motioned his head like he's saying let's go.

You can hear a coin drop echo in the abandoned rec-room they are currently in. For a while he just listened to himself breath. His daughter safely behind bars. He doesn't have to worry about her for a while.

"If you told me this morning that corpses are going to run around then" he deeply inhaled and slowly exhaled trying to keep himself calm "I'd have you admitted. Now I just feel like I'm crazy and this is all just a bad dream" no zombie movie prepared him for this shit.

"I'm ex-marine, seen my fair share of death. What were you before Armageddon hit?" He asked sat at one of the tables. He rubbed his temples trying to ease the migraine that crept up on him.
