A man sits atop a roof, the wind blowing around him, the wisps of polluted oxygen like ghasts in the darkest corners of the world. His eyes bore up at the illumated black clouds above him, a mixture of coal and steam, which blocked out the view of the night sky.
A gentle glow of the moon tries to reach out to kiss the brassy pipes, the billowing chimneys, the wet cobblestone streets. The man breathes in, the end of a cigar brightening and cindering. He let's out a long sigh, puffing out the bluish smoke of tobacco into the wind.
He looks down towards the city in front of him, a long expanse of brass and copper. The mills and factories by him puffed out smoke, the homes the distance their steam. He could hear the rattles of pipe and metal as the sooty water moved across the exposed street's pipes.
Suddenly, behind him, he hears a shingle fatter down, falling of the edge, kicking up dust and ash, falling down and shattering on the street below
He turns, his crimson eyes looking back into the murky darkness at his unexpected visitor.
