This Looking For RP topic is marked as closed, meaning it is no longer seeking new players.

Oh no! You've been captured! As human or some other surface creature, you've been taken far beneath the surface (you could swear you've passed the five mile mark!) to a place where your bestiary helps very little. A place where the elves have dark skin, where dwarves look like the rocks they mine, and tentacle-faced creatures would suck the brain out of your skulls if left to their own devices.

You now occupy one cage in a row with equally unfortunate neighbors who've been subjected to the same future. When you awaken, it may come to your surprise that you are able to see in the darkness of this cavern thanks to the glowing mushrooms that sat along the stone walls like lanterns. From the distance, you could hear the booming noises of cheering and laughter.. easily thousands of voices. After a long wait, the jingling of keys could be heard closing the distance...

Looking for 4-6 players to brave the evils of the Underdark. I have some things planned, but should we continue beyond that everything will be improvised.

Just to make something very clear: while this is freeform, there are clear limits. For the most part, your characters should be realistic only to be thrust into a place of magic and terrifying creatures. If you choose to play a spellcaster, it should be reasonably "low level" with a later option of seeking a mentor.
Magic 30%
Some magic. Few can use it, but most of the players probably won't have it. Magical characters will likely believe that they are all alone.
Technology 20%
Iron age
Combat 70%
More combat than not. The setting may be at war, and the characters will likely get involved whether or not they seek it out.

Details: Freeform, adjustable length posts, long-term RP partner preferred.

This sounds interesting! What we're the ideas you had for this?
Assortment (played by koroni)

This sounds so cool! :o
Definitely interested in joining, and I'll probably use Tomek, who's a steadfast human chemist and medic. I'll make him a nice profile once I know for sure this'll start up! ^^

..Well. I generally improvise from start to finish since I don't like to plan a whole lot unless an idea comes to me by accident. I've done this start-up before and it's ended in different ways each time, so I have no designated end-point for this.

Your characters will begin by being introduced to one another and then summarily delivered to a colosseum, given modest weaponry to defend themselves. From that point forward, I have no plans. If I had to guess, they'd either have to earn their freedom, die, or be purchased by an interested, wealthy character who might give them tasks with a faint hope of survival or freedom.

100% of this story will take place miles below the surface, and magic will be restricted to a small percentage of characters.

Also if I'm able to get 4-6 to agree to this, it will probably be a slowly-progressing long-term play that takes course over several months as we'll have turns and I doubt everyone will be on at the same time.

This sounds super cool! Would it be alright if I joined? :o

Sure, as long as you can blend into medieval fantasy.

Bump
I was thinking about joining this but missed the freeform part and just assumed that this was d&d. When I was about... twelve, i think, I read maybe seven of the Drizzt books so although I'm not as well acquainted with the rules of the game I am decently acquainted with the Underdark. Also got into drowtales a couple of years later but that's a bit different.

So is this Underdark based as directly off of the Forgotten realms version as I thought? I could just add one of my humies, but if the lore is parallel I'd like to read a bit again to get the correct vibe/ remember more about what I learned when younger.

The lore doesn't have to be precise as I won't be using any canonical characters or locations. As far as the "Underdark" is concerned, you really only have to know how far it is beneath the surface; everything else will be covered via RP. It's not as if your character will have a clue what's going on anyway.

I'd say it's loosely based on D&D due to the lack of dice and character sheets. You could always just run your character by me to make sure it's good for the play. Character sheets (especially high level ones) tend to translate poorly to detailed roleplay.
The Hanged Man (played anonymously)

Interested!
I'd say it'd have to be either Tara or Tye. I was considering adding a new character (i have plenty I just don't play here) but I don't think any of them would fit the scenario any better than those two.

That works. I'll confirm if everyone's interested tomorrow I think. Just need to take care of a few things first.
Hello, I'd be interested in joining if there is still room. My character might have to arrive via a bit of a different route since she already originates from the Underdark, perhaps she was thrust into the arena after her House fell.
Sounds like an interesting adventure.

Sure! It looks like one of ours no-showed. We also haven't started yet.

Would you like to join as well, Kat?
