Would it be possible to have more privacy options, other than who see's when I am on line and who see's when I am in a chat?

Privacy is really important to people and sometimes they don't want to let everyone on their friends list know when they've made a post somewhere, or when they've made a new character. Making it anonymously is a way to fix that, but that really only pertains to characters. The notification dash broadcasts a lot of what users do, I think it would be really nice to turn off some of that for yourself, and not just for others, giving you extra privacy that you may feel that you need or that you want.

I couldn't say for sure how it would work. One would think just simple tick boxes would fix it, but that's a face value sort of thing.. I've no clue what goes into the inner workings of it.. Could it be something that can be done? Or is it something that is just not going to be able to be done at all?

If it happens, it will be in the far future. Notifications need tons of critical work done to them. =/

I'm not sure that not adding something to notifications constitutes making something "private", though. If you're posting it on the public forums, I can't actually see any reason why there should be privacy settings of any kind for it, as anyone can still read it, link to it, etc.

Similarly, if you're posting something to a group, I can't see why not telling group members that it was up the moment it was up would actually make it any more "private". All group members would still be able to see it, link to it, and respond to it.

I suppose that's true, but I'm meaning more things pertaining directly to my account, like when I upload new pictures and make new characters. Do these things have to have notification alerts for others? I know other people can turn that off so they don't see it, but would the option to do it for yourself be possible?

Posting in the public form is one thing, that is true. That's going to be seen, which is why it's the public form and the guild stuff is pretty much the same.

I appreciate you getting back to me on this.

I'm still really puzzled by this idea. Non-anoymous characters, and photos posted on non-anonymous characters, are still public, and can be found or linked to by anyone, same as forum posts.

This idea would make tons of sense if we were Facebook, where you can post a photo that only certain people can see under any circumstances. What you're talking about, though, is just not telling people about things they could look up anyway. That's not so much privacy as immediacy. The solution to this appears to be unfriending people you don't want notifications being sent to, since I can't figure out why you would want to take the decision about whether they are interested or not away from an actual friend.

I can't see letting users decide not to send out notifications to their friends that those friends are expecting to receive resulting in anything but 1) tons of bug reports as people tell me notifications are broken because their friends posted new pictures and they didn't get told, and 2) drama when I inevitably tell them that notifications aren't broken, their friend just didn't want them to know about their public actions.

I may not be explaining it so well, but I definitely get what you are saying and it pretty much answers it. Sorry for the trouble!

Thanks again for getting back to me on this. I suppose just having certain characters as anonymous would be a must, as you are correct. What I am asking would make a bunch of sense on facebook. Certain characters may be offensive to certain friends and to avoid that, just keeping them on anon would be for the best, rather than making a series of options to block certain things from certain friends.
