Just like in the anime, Sword Art Online kind of takes play in a fantasy or mid-evil setting, with one hundred floors, bosses, and monsters you can fight, in each stage. The safest areas you can be are in safe zones, which are like towns, cities, villages etc.

2022 years in the future, a new virtual reality game, called Sword Art Online (SAO for short) comes out. Millions of gamers join the game, thinking that it's just a fun game, where you get to upgrade your stats, obtain objects by battling monsters, and monster's. Everything in the game looks so real, it's kind of unbelievable! Even exciting games like Sword Art Online, always have a strange bug in it. The major bug in thia game is, if you die in the game you die in real life! Worst of all, no one can even log out of the game! Unless someone reaches the 100th floor, and beats the final boss, will anyone be able to log out, if this so called death game?
