  • The following is IC info; common knowledge that most characters are likely to already possess upon arriving at the Academy. It is left completely up to your disgression whether your character knows none, some or all of the following.

Aria Academy was recently established by the wealthy noble, Safiye, and named after her then-infant daughter. This is not a college in the modern sense. Rather, it is run more like a renaissance-style Master's workshop. Students at the academy spend many years working as apprentices under resident masters, learning their trade through hands-on work. The majority of the work is created for and sold to wealthy patrons, primarily nobles who wish to own pieces created at such a fashionable establishment. Students are very much akin to employees. They are learning a trade and may continue to work at the school for the rest of their lives. There are no other classes like math or science.

Master Artists (and the more advanced apprentices) earn a large cut of the proceeds. Beginners do not see a dime. It is assumed that any work they sell goes toward their tuition, room, and board, all of which are provided by the academy to hard working students. The academy welcomes the public to visit at any time, and it has become a popular gathering place, particularly for those who consider themselves wealthy, educated or cultured.

It is not expected that most students will graduate and leave the college; rather most are simply trying to work their way up to the top rankings to earn their living in the workshops. A few may branch off, but supporting oneself as an artist is almost impossible in the time period without the support of an extremely wealthy patron like the Lady Safiye.
  • Tired of playing in taverns? Aria Academy is a Renaissance Fantasy setting for serious RPers and sophisticated characters. You don't need to be a student to participate.
