What's a Gremlin?
Gremlins are a young, supernatural race. The origins of which are unclear of the original race, but reports of them began to surface during World War 2. Little critters that would sabotage mechanical creations (specifically airplanes) during the war effort.
But fuck you, that's not how Gremlins are now!
Once upon a time, in the far past of 1986 there was a group of gremlins that lived in Empire City. These creatures were filthy little beggars who were looked down upon by the other supernatural races as being thieves and trouble makers. One such Gremlin, our hero Countach -- dreamed of a better life. One of being higher up in the pecking order, or fast cars and faster women. One could blame TV shows such as Miami Vice that Countach watched.
One day, while picking through a scrap yard with his best friend Testarossa, Countach found an old oil lamp. Polishing it to clean it up in hopes of pawning it, suddenly a genie appeared! She was called Arialynn, and like all genies when freed, she offered 3 wishes to the little gremlin.
His first wish was to be more rad like the other supernatural races. So, no longer were the gremlins 3 foot fuck all and gutter trash; now they were lean, mean, smart and sexy. This of course, came with a cost. The gremlins would be forever young in both body and mind -- eternally stuck in a 1980s mindset.
Yeah, Arialynn was kind of a messed up genie.
The second wish was for wealth! So the gremlins got more money than they knew what to do with. What would Countach do with it all? Smart investing? Global corporation that funded the Gremlin appetite for inventing machines? Nope. He bought an arcade, fast cars, cool clothes and would live the rest of his days as a party animal. He of course would fund all the other gremlins who now saw him as their leader.
Arialynn pestered him for the third wish. Countach asked of her what would happen if he did, to which she replied that she would finally be free to do as she pleased. Well to hell with that! How was Countach going to carry on without his own, personal genie?
Right, Gremlins are also kind of dicks.
Some Science Stuff
After the transformation, Gremlins did retain their ability for tinkering. All Gremlins have an innate ability to fix machines (though few create their own), but the ability is limited to technology of the 80s. Anything above that simply short circuits and becomes unusable. When enraged, a Gremlin can produce an EMP wave that shorts out all electronics within 20 feet. They can also emit an electric shock capable of stunning a foe.
Gremlin females are rare, only 1/100 or so. This means Gremlin males are very competitive.
