• Fire breath: Capable of breathing a continuous flame. It has good lung capacity.
• Keen senses: Sight, hearing, and smell are all highly refined, and its whiskers are very sensitive to touch. One could argue that these excellent senses are balanced out by a ghastly sense of taste.
• Hunting: Thanks in part to its sharp eyes and strong nose, Grom is adept at finding and tracking prey. This is usually rats, but this skill can be applied to other quarries as well.
• Quills: Grom's quills easily break off, but they grow back within a week or two. If the quills get lodged in a foe, they tend to break away from Grom's skin to remain lodged in the offending flesh. They aren't poisonous, but they can be quite painful.
• Size: Grom may not be as large or impressive as most dragons, but as far as earthly beasts go, it is sizable and dangerous. Its build is similar to a liger.

Grom has thick, shaggy fur that is primarily deep mahogany tipped and dappled in crimson, with the shorter fur on its face and legs a lighter coral hue. Expressive whiskers, tufted tips, and furry brows flash bright scarlet. Two tusks rise from its lower jaw, while keen yellow eyes peer from a wide, flat head. Grom bears flexible scales down its belly and on its forelimbs, as well as sharp black quills on its head, neck, and back, which are capable of folding flat or puffing out. It's quite easy to break the quills loose, which often happens if they get lodged anywhere, though they grow back swiftly. Tiny, vestigial wings flutter uselessly upon the beast’s shoulderblades, their membranes as ripped and torn as its tufted ears. Thanks to opposable thumbs, its front paws are reasonably dexterous. Sometimes it carries a grody leather satchel around its neck.
