  Dmitri's parents were both from Ireland, though they came to America a few years before he was born. His mother was a witch, and his father was a muggle, so when he was born, there was a chance that he would be a wizard. He was, much to their joy, and he was raised in magic by his mother. From a very early age, he showed talent for healing, and a great love for animals. They had high hopes for him.
  
  His parents died in a fire when he was six years old. He watched them die, smelled the scent of cooking meat while they burned, and it has left him terrified of fire ever since. Even the smallest flicker of flame is enough to make him tense and jumpy, so he tries to keep his head down and stay away from open fires if he can.
  
  After the death of his parents, he was in and out of orphanages and foster care for years. Thankfully they left him a trust fund, but he can't touch it until he's eighteen. That doesn't bother Dmitri, and it's not why he can't hold down a home. It's just that he has nightmares, terrible nightmares, and after a while his foster families couldn't handle his fears, or his night terrors, and they would send him back.
  
  Getting the letter from Hogwarts was not a big shock for him. His mother had been a witch, after all, and Dmitri figured he had a shot, so he was happy to be whisked away to England so he could accept his legacy as the Dorshan family's only remaining wizard--their only remaining lineage, really. Of course, with his inheritance, he couldn't do much for himself but second-hand robes and hand-me-downs. Everything he wears is baggy and too big for him, but Dmitri likes the freedom of movement, so it's nothing too bad for him. Sometimes he's teased, but he deals with it and keeps his head high like his mother always taught him to.
  
  From the very beginning, Dmitri has been a bit of an anomaly. He's an average student, neither incredibly talented or terribly awful, but he's definitely intelligent. It's just hard for him to transfer that intelligence into what he does, for some reason. Some might say he has a learning disorder, but it's been neither proved, nor disproved. The only thing anyone can say he really excels at is puzzle solving, as well as healing. He's also incredibly talented with animals. They seem to flock to him no matter where he goes.
