  This here is Josie Merlo, a fifth year Gryffindor and all around lazy individual. If something involves getting dressed and going outdoors, there's a very high chance you'll never see her face there. She really just doesn't care, it's a chore to slip on her uniform in the morning. All she wants to do is lounge around in comfort. It's a problem. She's usually found sleeping in until noon on the weekends, and even then it's like waking a bear from hibernation.
  
  Sleep is a very, very precious thing to her, okay? Okay.
  
  How does one even begin to describe Josie? Josie is flawless. Okay not really, but she likes to think so from time to time. A bout of narcissism is good for the soul now and again. In reality Josie is complicated; a bursting personality that would make your head spin. Feisty and all too headstrong, kind, but not too kind. She's loud, yet, quiet. Is it any surprise that her moods depend on how well she's slept?
  
  Quite an outspoken individual, Josie tends to say whats on her mind whenever and wherever she may be. She just doesn't care. Okay she does care. She cares a lot, but she tends to mask her actual feelings with sarcasm and quick wit. Expressing certain feelings is too difficult for her. It terrifies her to open herself up to people in such a way, so she often holds back. It's worked for her thus far.Besides, she likes to think it gives her somewhat of a bad ass edge. Hilarious tbh.
  
  However through it all, Josie does have somewhat of a temper. Hurricane Josie if you will.
  
  Somewhat of a slacker at times, she's the type to never hand in her homework, usually found sleeping against or on it in the common room and everywhere else. When it comes down to it, her grades are always on top, she's never once failed at anything in terms of her studies. She just doesn't....study. It's a gift.
  
  Allergic to cats, walking around Hogwarts is an actual nightmare for Josie. In her second year she tried to have cats banned from school grounds. Yeah, it didn't work out very well.
  
  Her absolute dream is to work with magical creatures once she's out of Hogwarts, it's honestly all that she's ever wanted to do.
  
  All in all Josie is a very friendly person. She's the kind of person who is friends with just about everyone? She doesn't exactly limit herself to a certain group of people, because that's just not how she rolls. She's a people person. Josie Merlo: ray of sunshine when she wants to be.
  
  She doesn't really go around pissing people off, as fun as that does sound she has much better things to do. (sleep). She doesn't exactly have a filter, swears like a sailor and says whatever is on her mind, so there's no doubt that she's gotten on a few bad sides. Enemies are always great.
  
  Relationships are not something Josie really likes to partake in. Once again, feelings terrify her. She stays well away from feelings. Her first and only real relationship lead to heartbreak and lol she'd be damned if she put herself through that again.

• Biography

  The first day of the rest of your life begins in slow motion. Legs tangled in soft silk sheets, face buried among a pile of pillows. The sun, ever so blinding as it spills through the window. Laughter and loud voices echo from the kitchen downstairs, drawing you further and further from the wonderful and warm sleep filled state that occupied your body just moments ago.
  
  The smell of sizzled bacon and burning pancake batter hangs in the air. Ever so slowly, warmth turns into chills. The hardwood floor cold beneath your feet, you shuffle up, out and down the stairs.
  
  A cream colored envelope perched upon weeks worth of newspaper is the first thing to catch your eye. You know exactly what it is, but you cannot bring yourself to reach forward. Frozen with excitement, you stand staring at it as if it were some foreign and diseased object. You'd better open it, or your auntie will. She’s been wanting too since it first arrived.
  
  You blink. Once, twice, three times and snatch it away from your aunt's vision. Laughter booms throughout the tiny kitchen, it causes you to cringe. Tiny fingers ripping away at the tough packaging. Paper flying in all directions. You read, ’...we are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry…’
  
  A shrill shriek falls from upturned lips, a grin so forceful it causes your cheeks to ache. Parchment stays clutched within your grip all throughout breakfast; you dare not part with such a thing. It is after all, the start of your new life.

  The night before you’re meant to leave, smelly Nelly from around the corner decides it’d be a laugh to push you face first into the mud puddle. His pudgy fist full of your pink polka dotted blouse, he shoves. Neighborhood kids laugh and point as brown liquid splashes everywhere. Mum would always say he’s just mean because he fancies you. To be frank, he was just mean for the attention. He thrived on it, and it was a simple fact you were always aware of.
  
  So you glare. Eyebrows drawn together in rage and sadness; tears well in the corner of your eyes, though you refuse to let him have the laugh he wants so badly. Instead, it happens all too quickly. He trips, pants falling around his ankles only to reveal brightly colored Barney undies. Laughter falling all around you. You stand, shake the mud off your skirt and smile.
  
  There's a certain pep in your step on your way back home.

  As if you weren't nervous enough, the old musty hat goes and makes your heart race even faster. Mumbling and bumbling around words; the hat tells you that you’re kind, humble and helpful and stubborn as the day is bright and as fierce as can be. Simple, simple facts. It's time to cut to the chase, is it not? Palms slick with sweat, knee bouncing faster and faster as the moments tick on and on.
  
  It should be a dream come true, really. All eyes are focused on you and you alone. Except it's terrifying. You're shaking in your proverbial boots. How you spend the next seven years of your life lies within the fate of a hat. Get on with it already you old bugger!
  
  The hat chuckles, hm’s and ha’s. Above all else, it’s come to realization that you, Josie Merlo, are as daring as they come. You’re welcomed at the Gryffindor table with smiles, warm wishes and hugs. Just like that you’re welcomed into a life long family.

  The first potions class you attend, ends with a bang. Literally. You spend the night tucked away in your rooms. Hidden beneath blankets, you sniffle and hiccup as tears roll down your cheeks, hiding from any and all further embarrassment you may or may not cause yourself. The next potions class you attend, all eyes are on you. It ends in sparks, and a smirk against your lips.

  Coming home from Hogwarts always has consists of downsides. Coming home means spending the entirety of break with your father, someone with whom you have never felt close to for the entirety of your life. You hear murmurs from other relatives during holidays about the day you were born and how Mr. Merlo cried. For the day that you were born was also the day that mum had died.
  
  Unforeseen complications during childbirth were exactly that, but no amount of logic or empathy could get Josefina's father to stay around to see his child grow up as business always seemed to call him away from England. Your aunt Lilith is your constant source of socializing, and the only insight to what existed before you came into the world, of how your father used to be. She tells you how father had been a warm and attentive brother and though Lilith never blamed her for it, Josefina has a deep rooted feeling of guilt for having killed their mother and ripping the family apart.
  
  During your third year, Mr. Merlo returned to England to “play a more active role” in raising his daughter. This, however, simply meant he would shut himself away in his office for days at a time, refusing to acknowledge your existence and rejecting your every attempt to get close to him.
  
  Each new year going back to Hogwarts, has taught you to give up on attempting to please the man, instead choosing to bury yourself in what one might call a “rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle” – as you'd like to call it, in your mind, there’s no point in trying to win the acceptance of a man determined to hate you and any attention at all, so you've decided that even negative attention is better than nothing at all.

  Sometimes, in a rare moment you wish you had a normal childhood filled with normal things. A life without magic; then again it would be a life filled with emptiness and longing. Magic is apart of your very being. It flows through your veins; it always has. It always will.
