  No one can really say, exactly where Nessuno came from. His first memories are vague, flashes of a slave ship. Perhaps there were others like him. Perhaps he was stolen from his family or purchased from them. He can't really say. His clearest, first memory is of his master's voice.
  
  "I suppose he's kind of cute." It was the first words the wolf can remember. He's certain there were others, but that one stood out. They stood out because that one took him home. A dragon took him home. He doesn't remember the trip to his new home. He doesn't remember if he was purchased or stolen. What he did know, was that he was home.
  
  His home was a beautiful one. His master had simple tastes and as stereotypical as it might be, they lived in a cave. A cavernous open space in the void beneath the earth's surface, the floor covered in the gold of his Master's hoard, fine silks, and fabrics covering the walls and equally fine furniture making the caverns comfortable. They lived in a cave, but they did not live like animals.
  
  It was his Master that gave him his name. The dragon laughed, with that thunderous voice when the answer to the question 'what is your name' was met with, 'I'm nobody, sir.' The little wolf was informed that since he was no one he would be Nessuno. For the word meant 'nobody' in Italian. A language the dragon favored.
  
  His master had little need for servants. If he needed something, Nessuno was more than enough to do it. From a young age, the wolf was taught basic commands. He was taught how to carry himself and how to be polite to guests that never came. Charmed by the young wolf's enthusiasm for knowledge, the dragon taught him to read and write. Carefully the dragon taught the wolf languages. Nemateelu does not become an adult until the age of 100 and in the near century he was with his Master, the wolf learned more than most universities could ever teach.
  
  He was taught to be very, very still. As he aged and his cute puppy fluff was exchanged for the strong but feminine body of a Nemateelu, the dragon saw a different use for him. Draped in gold and jewels, the wolf became part of his hoard. Used mostly for conversation, the dragon enjoying the intellectual thoughts of his slave as much as he did his appearance.
  
  Nessuno was a slave. However, he was happy. He had family in his Master. He wanted for nothing. His life was comfortable. He served his Master with everything that he had.
  
  It would be a chance encounter that ended it all. The young wolf was permitted out of the cavern frequently at night. The daylight, otherwise hurting the wolf's light sensitive eyes. He was permitted to walk along the river, usually in his Master's company. It was one of these nights, that they were spotted. A Knight took one look at the dragon, walking beside what he thought was a lovely young lady, draped in a pleasant silk dress, gold, and jewels...
  
  The Knight decided that day, that he must save the damsel in distress. It was a coward's trap the Knight laid out. He did not ride in like the hero. He laid an ambush for Nessuno's master. The dragon fell in a fight that was in no way fair, the much larger dragon, missing the trip wire that was set to a cannon of all things.
  
  The joke was on the Knight though. He was furious, both for Nessuno's lack of gratitude, grief and the fact that he was in fact not a damsel at all. The Knight had no use for the grieving Nemateelu.
  
  However, the Knight was content to drown his sorrows in his new found wealth. The dragon's hoard was massive and it would keep the Knight very comfortable, for the rest of his life. However, greed was still with him as he traded Nessuno to a passing slave trader for another bag of gold.
  
  So now the wolf sits. As quiet and still as ever. Snatched away from the only home he ever knew by his 'savior' and sent to a place where people stare at him as if he is vermin. Where no one cares about the intelligent creature in the scared little wolf. The wolf has been introduced to the Tether life...
