• Personality

  Beetlestar is known for his youthful, energetic disposition. He is naturally friendly and loud, and while he has his childish moments, he truly does his best as a leader. He has trouble taking things slowly, which is why he is usually seen darting ahead of the crowd or doing things earlier than needed. He favors organization, and gets anxious if things are done late.
  
  He finds himself having a large soft spot for the younger cats; specifically, the apprentices. He feels a fatherly connection to all of them and will do his very best to encourage and cheer them on. When it comes to more serious issues, Beetlestar isn't very experienced. The clan hasn't faced any kind of significant tragedy since before he was made deputy, and as a result he gets very stressed and insecure if he has to deal with anything new.
  
  While he complained about Amberstar's former, old-fashioned ways, he strives to be as good of a leader as she was. He puts the thought of her approval into every major decision he makes. Beetlestar wants to be the leader that she thought he could be, and places a lot of pressure on himself because of it. He attempts to hide it, but it doesn't ever seem to work out well.
  
  He is very transparent with his emotions. As an apprentice, his emotions were like a roaring fire. He loved and hated with every part of him, and he would speak his mind without a second thought. He was irresponsible with his feelings, and unknowingly dragged others down with him. Beetlestar learned how to handle them as he got older, and both regrets and knows the importance of the ways he used to act. However, he still has no idea how bad he is at hiding when he's feeling upset. He thinks he can mask it well, but any cat with half a mind of their own can tell when the leader is feeling down.

• History

  Beetlekit was born the only one in his litter to parents that focused more on their positions as warriors than their roles as parents. Because of this, he became desperate for attention. He wrecked havoc on the nursery and was quickly seen as a little menace amongst the cats that witnessed him wildly playing in the camp. When it came time for him to become an apprentice, only one cat was willing to mentor him.
  
  Amberstar was patient. Her moons of experience leading the clan showed as she took her time mentoring Beetlepaw. He was upset at first, when he wasn't being taught at the same pace of the other apprentices. Amberstar had him practicing the same few moves over and over until he could do them in his sleep, and was sent hunting alone more often than not.
  
  Beetlepaw began to catch on when he noticed how his attitude affected what he learned. If he came to practice a shaking ball of energy, complaining about wanting to learn more moves and insisting he would become the best warrior in the clan, Amberstar would have him repeat the same things he had learned before. If he came with his head high and asking what he could do today, sitting politely and properly talking to Amberstar instead of throwing words in her direction, she would show him new things.
  
  They learned how to handle his energy together. He traded bouncing about for waving his tail and shuffling his paws as he sat. While his volume turned out to be near impossible to control, he figured how to speak with others instead of at them. When he became Beetlestep he turned his focus away from himself. He didn't let his every emotion control him, and learned how to not take everything so personally.
  
  Amberstar gave him his first apprentice not long after he became a warrior himself. He put his passion into teaching, and found a love for helping others grow. More responsibility meant less time to get lost in his own mind. His training techniques were presented with care, and he put lots of thought into crafting methods to fit the cat he mentored.
  
  His hard work didn't go unnoticed, for when the current deputy was lost to a badly infected injury, Beetlestep was chosen as the replacement. He, along with several other members of the clan, asked Amberstar if she was sure this was the right choice. Amberstar was positive, and wanted no debate on the matter. She had become the most important figure in his life, and Beetlestar promised he wouldn't let her down.
  
  However, not letting her down didn't mean he wouldn't annoy her. He constantly asked her questions, followed her around, and undermined her on complete accident a few times from not paying full attention. Amberstar had always been a serious cat, who didn't speak if she didn't have to. This created an interesting dynamic, with Beetlestep frequently buzzing around, reporting every detail of anything he could think of being slightly important to Amberstar, while she looked on with a stony expression.
  
  Beetlestep was always proposing new ways of doing things. He had a head full of ideas that he wanted to share, but Amberstar was one for tradition. She preferred to keep things the way they always were. This caused friction between the two, but they never took it personally, Beetlestep only ever mentioning her stubborn ways as passing jokes to others.
  
  Beetlestep had never been as quiet as he was the day he became Beetlestar. His dearest friend and mentor had passed peacefully in her sleep, and joined StarClan with warm welcomes from her old clanmates. When he got his nine lives at the Mountaintop he promised her that he would be the best leader he could be, and Amberstar told him she knew he could do even better than that. She made him promise not to mope around like a miserable kit for too long.
  
  Beetlestar had to take himself more seriously from that point on. He's only been the leader for a few moons now, but he's getting the hang of it quickly, and won't let any learning opportunity pass him by. He's careful with the changes he makes, completely thinking through ideas before bringing them up to his clanmates. He strives to balance his own goofy love for his clan with the level of responsibility that a good clan leader must have, and he dearly hopes he's been doing well enough so far.
