• Paloma and her brother are both significantly older than their younger sister. This never seemed to matter to Paloma; her love for both of her siblings never appeared to waver. Her mother, Robin, often said that despite Paloma's unusual capabilities, she has always had a big heart. Even when the other children would not always be so nice to her.
  
  As a child, Paloma was always reading. She was as interested in history as she was in storybooks. As a result, her father's study became somewhat of a sanctuary to her. She would sit in his big armchair and read his textbooks as he worked and he would let her read his notes if he thought she would like them. This was where her interest in medicine began to come forward. Her father was a doctor, and so most of his things were related to his occupation. The family had an oak book case in their kitchen. Anyone in her family could guarantee none of those books went unread either.
  
  Her unusual power began to manifest when she was very young. Her mother's garden was always prospering, even in the wintertime and occasionally the lights in the house would flicker on their own. Paloma had a special kind of energy that her family began to recognize even in its most tender form. At first it scared them. It wasn't that they weren't aware that fantastical things existed, they were just not expecting that their little Paloma would be one.
  
  It seemed that others began to recognize it as well. Children in the neighborhood were not especially nice to her, calling her a witch as if it was a bad thing. It never seemed to get her down, and she would often confuse her bullies by trying to befriend them rather than argue back. Paloma knew she was a kind spirit and didn't need anyone to tell her so. Even though she had given her family a not-so-polished reputation for being a witch, she tended to indirectly remind them that they were not as people said they were. Fortunately, there were still people who were very happy to be friends of the Gendrys, and very happy that little Paloma could always put a smile on their faces.
  
  Paloma became rather skilled in herbalism and alchemy as she grew up. She showed to have something of a friendship with nature, able to grow healthy plants year round and create home remedies that always worked. She came to help her father with his medical career by providing him with her homemade medicine to give to his clients. It was a little odd for people to know that a young woman was slowly squirming her way into the field of medicine.
  
  When Paloma was fourteen, her mother had a third child, a daughter named Irma. Due to complications in Irma's infancy, she was never able to walk when she reached the usual age. She was wheelchair ridden by the age of six.
  
  Despite this disability, Paloma gave love to her sister. Paloma was a girl who made it her goal to make people happy, to heal them.
  
  Though as she neared adulthood, Paloma became somewhat shy. She hadn't lost her talents, but she had lost some of her self confidence. By the age of eighteen, there had been no sign of romance in her life. At this age it was common for young women to begin meeting potential husbands and being perused in the name of love- but Paloma was never looked after. Being as she was, she understood why men her age would avoid her. And after a while it started to put a strain on her heart. Would she ever be desired? Her mother worried about this, seeing the signs that Paloma began to think that she wasn't worth the trouble. Even through the fronts she formed around herself.
