Until a few years ago, Kevin Tanner was living a comfortable life. He had a girlfriend, a good job, and a side hustle that was allowing him to squirrel away a lot of cash.
You see, Kevin is a computer security analyst, and a damn fine one at that. In an effort to pay off his student loans, he began moonlighting as a Cobbler, an underworld figure that crafts fake identities for people. It's a lucrative business and even after he got out of debt, he couldn't pass up the money.
He didn't know he was working for vampires. Why would he? He just thought his pasty clients were involved in the drug trade. They all had that whiff of addiction about them, but he didn't judge. All money is green, after all.
Everything changed when his girlfriend pressured him to put aside that side hustle and go straight. His clients didn't like that idea and one decided to bring him into the fold.
It worked... mostly. The vampire was too young, too stupid, and too weak to understand just how diluted their blood was. The vampiric vitae within Kevin's body was barely enough to animate him, suspending him in a queer halflife between alive and undead. He was barely a vampire, a Thin Blood, according to his contemporaries.
As it happens, embracing mortals without permission is frowned upon in Vampire Society, and his sire met an untimely end as a result. Kevin was swooped up, and while come members of the 'Camarilla' thought it'd be best to kill him as well, other recognized the value of a technologically adept pawn, and decided to brand him instead.
The half moon brand was seared into the side of his neck as he was held down by impossibly strong vampires... and it still hurts today. -
The Monster
"As it turns out, blood is delicious. Who knew?"
As a Thin Blood, Kevin is hardly a vampire. He doesn't have the strength, speed, or toughness of a vampire. Hell, he doesn't even have fangs.
However, he doesn't have their biggest weakness either. Rather than being burned by the sun, sunlight merely weakens him. He can feel it's oppressive weight, but can still function fine in the daylight. Although he does tend to wear heavy shades because his eyes are sensitive to bright light.
What he does have is the Thirst. He needs blood to survive. Fresh blood is the best of course, but without fangs, his opportunities to feed straight from the tap is limited. So, he tends to rely on bagged blood, something most vampires and even Thin Bloods find repulsive. In desperate situations, he'd not above bleeding and draining animals, and there have been desperate times.
The life of a Thin Blood is not typically pleasant. They are at the bottom of a predatory food chain, barely better than mortals. Most true vampires value ghouls more highly than a Thin Blood, and many vampires consider Thin Bloods Abominations and heralds of the end times. -
