The Timeless Companion

The Imaginary Plane is a parallel world to real life, correlating to the Real Plane, and houses different creatures and terrain altogether - but is not exactly transparent. The Imaginary Plane is the result of human imagination in which creations ranging from dragons to robots exist, and from various different kingdoms to choose from, the plane is limitless into what could exist in it. It is said that fairytale creatures from folklore written from hundreds of years ago exist here, but is not limited to the past. Nowadays, in the modern world, the most common folk around are Imaginary Friends, creations made from little children to spend quality time with.

The Imaginary Plane is visible to certain humans in particular, and the most common cases are - you guessed it - children. With wild imagination let free, kids have all the potential to build and construct a friend of their own, as well as objects they would otherwise be unable to obtain, and have access to seeing certain landscapes of the Imaginary terrain - or make them altogether! Children are responsible for growing trees, summoning objects, and inventing tea parties which would later become culture in the Imaginary Plane for the residents within it. Because human children are a bridge between reality and the Imaginary Plane, their perception to the Plane is dependent on how they choose to see the world around them.
Imaginary Friends can sometimes invite their human companions to see things that would otherwise not be seen by a human child in the raw existence of the Imaginary Plane, since the Imaginary Plane is incomplete in a child's eyes - sometimes due to the fact that their imagination may be limited to an extent. So if an Imaginary Friend invites their human to see something they would otherwise not be able to see (since real life is first thing in a child's eyes), it is up to the Friend to guide them over and 'open' their way of seeing things beyond the Glass that separates the Real and Imaginary Planes. This comes in real handy in situations in which the Imaginary Friend might be affected from the Imaginary Plane but the human child is unable to 'see' accordingly. Some children are blessed with heightened senses of imagination so the duty of an Imaginary Friend can be lessened.

To the Imaginaries, terrain on the Imaginary Plane and real life are both equally possible to see. Imaginary Friends have the capability, whether conscious or subconscious, to choose whether a real life tree has a lollipop tree in place, and vice versa. They can see through the Glass and differentiate between what's seen as real to humans and what's imaginary to their natural senses. Entire forests of spruce trees would become seen as yellow cotton candy trees to all Imaginary Friends, but not to all children.

• Children who have Imaginary Friends and other friends in the Real Plane who also have Imaginary Friends can meet each other to make their day even more fun.
• At first, children won't be able to see other children's Imaginary Friends, but in order to see them, one child has to invite or introduce another child to see their Imaginary Friend, and vice versa. Once this 'veil' has faded, both children are able to see each other's Imaginary Friend and hear them, as well be affected by their actions. This is how various social events like tea parties are initiated.
• Imaginary Friends are exempt from this 'veil' because they generally can very easily interact with each other even if their human companion doesn't see who they're talking to.

Children have unlimited Imagination, which can sometimes bring forth unexpected powers of destruction. It is not rare to find the occasional Imaginary Friend with scary powers given to them, however, that does not mean it is the end of the world. The Imaginary Plane is extremely flexible, and the only thing that stands between overpowers and death of an Imaginary are the humans who make them in the first place.

Usually when a child makes a Friend with power quirks, this power is also made from pure imagination and how much a person perceives such a power. For example, a kid who might have made a black hole power, but doesn't understand the true physics of black holes, might only act as powerful as a standard vacuum cleaner. A child's brain isn't fully developed as a grown up, so there would be some gaps bound to appear in the creation.

If an adult makes a powerful Imaginary Friend with epic powers, then it is not negligible - to a degree. Because the Imaginary Plane is so vast with limitless opportunities, even a powerful move might not be able to do much besides 'showing off'. A child can imagine how destructive their Friend's power would be, but even after an entire landscape is decimated, the land would revert back to its default, and not to mention that those who are blind to the Imaginary Plane would see no destruction at all. Friends, if in a fighting match with their powers, won't die if their human companions choose so. Because Friends are fueled by their human's Imagination, it is appropriate to say that powerful powers won't make a difference. The only exceptions to that would be Imaginary Fiends and Soulseaters.

This is why residents in the Imaginary Plane usually take a pacifist stance wherever they go. It won't do anyone good if every child knew that their Friend fought with another Friend, or otherwise unnecessary conflicts might occur and children might be distracted more than they should be.

The following is the life stages of an Imaginary Friend and the imagination capacity as a human grows. As the human gets older, their sense of imagination grows less potent, usually due to less belief or interest in their friend as maturity takes over. The approximate average lifespan of an Imaginary Friend tends to end around adolescence, and commonly ends earlier than that. Not all people are created equal, so this chart may not apply to every individual.

The Glass is the border that separates the Real and Imaginary Plane. The Glass is difficult to see through into the Imaginary Plane than from observing from the Imaginary to the Real. This is because not all humans can see the Imaginary Plane equally, and sometimes it is the result of a lack of imagination fuel, or deteriorating sense of imagination. Only special humans can see the Imaginary Plane, and in certain levels, sometimes more or less than others, depending on the individual too.

Teenagers and adults are often unable to see through the Glass to the Imaginary Plane, which makes Imaginaries invisible and otherwise unheard, untouched, and unaffected by them. Adolescents and adults are so busy with real life that they are practically too immersed in the Real Plane. Usually when someone grows beyond 12 years of age, they become farther detached from the Imaginary Plane, and the Glass becomes harder to see through as their Imagination slowly deteriorates. Adults with children who have Imaginary Friends won't be able to see their Friends because they lack the capacity of Imagination like their child's, therefore it is near impossible for a child to introduce an Imaginary Friend visibly to their parents, even if they invite and describe them to 'see'. There are several things that can make this demographic of people an exception.

People with mental disabilities and depression can sometimes see through the Glass much more easily than your average adult human. Those with hallucinative disorders are most likely to see the Imaginary Plane, as well as those who take mind-altering drugs on a regular basis. Although adults and teens are an uncommon oddity, it is possible to see the occasional adult or teenager interacting with the residents of the Imaginary Plane. However, this sort of behavior can damage a person's image in the Real Plane, especially since others won't be able to see who they are talking to.

However, there are a certain group of adults who don't need to be diagnosed with a mental condition or have drug habits in order to see through the Glass. If a human acquires, and still attains his sense of imagination to the core, then it's more than likely they will become a writer or an artist of sorts. Artists and writers can have the ability to create an Imaginary Friend - and sometimes revive their old ones - if they so desired. Usually those minds are successful in recreating their imagination through tangible means of creative works, and that is really powerful in itself. It is why fairytales have sprouted creatures that stand up to legend to this very day.

The Glass has it's own limitations as well. Imaginary Friends have an affect on the Real Plane to a certain level. If the human companions grants it, an Imaginary Friend can move Real Plane objects down to their will alone. This behavior is totally unseen by those who are blind from the Imaginary Plane. So in most cases, the object is still in its place in the Real Plane, but there's a copy of the object that resides permanently in the Imaginary Plane and is open to the use of other Imaginaries. This rule cannot be applied to things with the ability to dream.

This is a list of words that are commonly used in the Imaginary Plane.

Forgetting: noun
It is the process in which an Imaginary Friend is slowly being forgotten or ignored by their human friends. As this process becomes more intense, Imaginary Friends inevitably turn to Dreamdust. Not all Imaginary Friends are aware of this process and sometimes vanish when its too late.

Unforgetting: noun
The reversion of the Forgetting. A difficult task in which humans must dive through their long-term memory. If the original creator of the Imaginary Friend tries their hardest to remember them, this will result in the Dreamdust taking form back to the Imaginary Friend, although this process is not instantaneous, depending on how hard the human attempts to recreate them from their ashes. If resurrected successfully, the Imaginary Friend will never be the same as it originally was.

Nightmarize: verb
The act of an Imaginary Friend rebelling or revolting against the Forgetting, and essentially transforming into distorted or creepier forms than their original. They become the nightmares of their original creators who created them in the first place, and are limited to harassing them only. They can come into their human creator in their sleep and turn their dreams into nightmares, or become hallucinations as their human is awake. They essentially become Imaginary Fiends.

Dreamdust: noun
The remnants of the Forgotten Imaginaries. This soft white-grey dust is whisked away by wind, and drifts up in the sky of the Imaginary Plane in the form of clouds at day, and in the form of stars at night.

While most people suspect that children are the only demographic capable of imagination avidly, it is to be told that the definition of childhood was not the same as today's. Stretching many generations ago, the definition of childhood - that would soon alter the history of the Imaginary World - was drastically different. Some call it even more primitive than today's vividly infinite forests of candy and exemplary glitter. Children back in the day would be subjected to harsh tasks, or be more involved with helping the family. In a time, they were once seen as 'little adults' - leaving little to no room for their active minds to cook up anything beyond simple ideas. Storytellers and visionaries with imaginary minds often had the capacity to fill the world with its earliest iterations of what would be called *mythical*, entertaining the world either verbally, poetically, or through documented literature or art. They were of a mature age, but their imagination was meant to either spook, teach children important lessons, satisfy the exhausted with something other than work, or otherwise, be as complex as to fill the void upon a bored king or queen's head.

Most of them were of the earliest myths that sprouted undisputed gods, dragons, and beasts of great proportions. This was given an official name: Age of the Ancients. Modern Imaginaries live harmoniously with these gods and beasts, so long as they respect them. Their wisdom, however, is not much sought after, as some of their fixated ideologies do not always dance along the modern world's. However, some are willing to change and explore the ever-changing world, while others lavish themselves in their original homelands. But their harnessed powers are often what makes them stand out from the crowd - when fully realized, they can change the land without the precious aid of a child, for their powers are permanently embedded in a book, or verbally drilled into the minds of those who heard the same story over and over through their culture.

History records of how the Imaginary World changed would be recorded by the earliest of scholars imagined, however, these scrips were not exactly infinitely preserved (unlike real world books). In order to preserve them, Dreamdust was an essential product in the creation of permanent papers that recorded the timeless and ever-shifting Imaginary World. While it was very ill advised to use it, it was necessary, as Dreamdust were the permanent remnants of anything imagined. So, to make it less painful for a scholar to take the dust of the recently Forgotten, they would have to endure long journey to find long Forgotten forests or lands, homes, or items that are on the brink of wilting into Dreamdust. Otherwise, to distinguish between an Imaginarykind's Dreamdust to an item or object's dust is extremely difficult unless said creature has the ability given to discern - which was often never on any human's mind as they didn't know how the Imaginary Plane really worked... or even existed.

The Imaginary World was never fully realized until the printing upon rock, stones, or the most famous of all - *paper*. After the Age of Mythics, Imaginary creatures would see themselves clashing upon others who came from different lands. The real world would start exploring and merging, where human colonists would begin their venture beyond their real homes and travel elsewhere, unlocking the Imaginary Plane geographically as more and more Mythics began to come face-to-face to other Mythics for the very first time. First introductions were filled with misunderstandings, so much so that some Mythics refuse to one another. However, established Mythics could always return to their homelands without further clashing with other Mythics to maintain order and peace and remain as pillars for the smaller Imaginarykind to look up to.

Down the line, as humans began to focus on crusades, wars, whether on sea or land, and perhaps most recently - air - the residents of the Imaginary Plane would come together to find that these causes of destruction sprung the Real Plane's residents were very distressing. So much so that they could sense the Imaginary Plane collapsing upon itself. The farthest edges of the Imaginary Plane would soon become infested with unkindly horrors and darkness no Mythic or otherwise has ever seen. Deformed Imaginarykind began to sprout from the Real Plane's intense chaos, daring to eradicate all of the Imaginary Plane. However, healthy and sane residents of the colorful side of the Plane refused to back down, and they began to hatch a dimension-wide plan, inviting the Mythics as well for their unprecedented power and aid - to wage the first two Imaginary Wars. Launched at the beginning of the first and second of the Real Plane's World Wars, forces of good and evil, light and darkness would clash relentlessly, shaking the Planes of Existence to their very core, and threatening for a collapse of all hopes and dreams that would otherwise leave the Real World vulnerable and demoralized, forever broken and traumatized. The balance was sharply shifted in favor of darkness, which would only prompt the residents of the light side of the Imaginary Plane to fend for themselves, forming forces and pacts against the monsters that birthed, protecting the Real World from slipping into complete internal suffering and agony.

Legions of Imaginarykind would leave unscathed, as much as many would remain as Dreamdust or forever mangled by the darkness, becoming one with it. While victory was by no means easy, it was also not the last one they would have. The conflict that scarred the Real World would transfer over to scar the Imaginary World. With the balance of light and dark gone awry, and the darkness threatening to ever rise again, the residents of the Imaginary Plane came to a conclusion: to forever maintain peace and order between themselves, and to forever control the darkness before it consumes all.
