    There had always been something a little strange about Black Oak. Even as a child the shaman had said the ancestors and more were with him, and they were certainly strong. His eyes weren't black or brown, or even honey hued. No, they burned like wildfire. His hair was never fully black, but gradually shaded to silver at the tips. It was almost like the coat of a wolf. Thicker the closer it got to his scalp. And when he got teeth? The canines were pointed and his sharp nose made him look very coyoteish.

    The older he grew, the more unique his abilities seemed to be. He could heal people, he could draw energy and life from himself, from the land, and lend it to another so they healed much faster than they would have ordinarily.
