Enzo is the only child of the Italian woman, Bella, and the Norwegian-American man, Martin. He was born in Italy, but he’s been living in America since he was 3. Although his parents were together, he didn’t exactly have a typical childhood. When his parents lived in Italy, they got involved with the mafia, and his father worked for them. That’s also why they moved to America, as the mafia thought it fit, that Martin worked for them there, as he was half American. For many years, they moved around a lot, and therefore his mother had difficulties working a fulltime job, and in the end, she gave up on finding something decent, and started to work along side her husband in the not-so-legal line of business.
His parents were never really home, but their boss welcomed him into his home, and he was basically raised there by a maid, along with the boss’ kid, who’s the same age as him. They became friends pretty quickly and were almost inseparable as they grew up.
As his friend, Matteo, got more involved with the mafia and his father’s work, it was only natural that Enzo also got into that line of business. He was almost trained along side Matteo, and as he himself gradually began to consider the mafia as his family, he also lost any bond he had left with his parents. It’s not that they weren’t good parents, and he still think his mother is an amazing woman, but suddenly they weren’t the only family he had. Maybe that’s why he wasn’t that affected, when his father got shot on the job and died. Besides, it wasn’t a surprise. Its not exactly a safe line of work.
Over the years, he might have gotten a bit cold. He has seen a lot of crap and done a lot of crap, and there isn’t space for a lot of empathy in that line of work. The only two people he actually cares about, are Matteo and his mother, but he’s never really worried about Matteo, as he can take care of himself. His mother is a different matter. After the death of his father, she fell apart and he started to feel responsible for her. As soon as he started to make money, he told her that she could stop working, and now she finally got out of this kind of stuff, which she didn’t even wanted to get involved with to begin with.
His mother is probably the only proof, that Enzo has a heart. It’s not that he’s a sadistic bastard, but he does seem smug and insensitive to most. He’s not even going to deny the fact that he is. He has no problem manipulating and hurting people, as he thinks himself better than them. If people are stupid enough to be used, tricked and manipulated, then that’s not his problem. At least, that’s what he tells himself. At first it wasn’t easy, but he learned to turn off those pesky emotions that could become a problem for his work, like empathy and compassion. Those feelings are still in him, just buried deep down. Once in a while they do rise to the surface but over the years it has gotten easier to push them back down. He’s too stubborn to let them get in the way. His stubbornness is another trait, that some might find annoying. Especially since he's also very curios, so when something catches his interest, he gets pretty persistent. Often, it’s out of boredom, and as soon as he has figured whatever it was out, he just drops it, and moves on.
