• Combat Details

  Aldreon relies heavily on his hefty weight to assist lackluster unarmed skill. His legs can be devastating if he finds an opportunity to use them, due to having to carry this same significant weight about for millenia. Generally attacks he manages to land will have considerable effect. It's getting them to land effectively that's the issue. Countering or avoiding unarmed attacks generally comes more easily. Sort of.
  
  Giving him weapons is commonly more of a liability than useful. Successful attacks will be considerably powerful, but the success rate is terrible much of the time.
  =Swords and other one-handed weapons he will either flail wildly, use sparingly, or just throw at someone.
  =Polearms will frequently not land any hits at all due to over-reliance on weight to assist jabs, which means heavy telegraphing.
  =Flails and other multi-segment weapons will hit him or his allies as often if not more than they hit their intended target.
  =Large or two-handed weapons will be considerably telegraphed and given a broad swing with a limp-handed recovery, making him dangerous to everyone involved and wide open afterward.
  =Knives and daggers have the highest successful-use rate overall but will frequently find themselves thrown whether they were meant to be or not.
  =Staves are the least likely to cause collateral to allies or the environment but also the least likely to harm the enemy.
  =Bows he has no idea how to use. Crossbows and bowguns see greater effectiveness due to their similarity to firearms but miss often.
  =Firearms see the greatest success when he has time to aim them. In the heat of things though he becomes inaccurate and dangerous.
  =Explosives. Don't give him these. For everyone's sake.
  
  Magically he fares far better, being primarily a controller of lightning and electrical discharge and having had countless years to figure out its use, but "power" does not imply "skill." While he has a lot of force behind his metaphysical abilities, properly using them is another story; All around in extended or high-end use, there crops up evidence of a lack of control, a wild usage of much power in a short period in hopes of it being useful. It generally isn't. Properly controlled magic usage on his part tends to be weak, only conditionally effective, or relegated to support. Healing and amplification of allies is something he has decent ability at and keeps him from becoming dangerous.
  
  In short, despite his size, weight and apparent physical power, Aldreon performs better and less dangerously when in the "back row" so to speak, attacking with magic and ranged weaponry from either a distance or a hidden position, and assisting allies offensively and defensively, as opposed to being out in the active fray trying to fight head on.
  
  If nothing else, he's notoriously durable.
