  • Biography

    Vashta Caelnya, a man with a name that translates 'Sword of the Cil'Naia' was born in destitute Surrekh to a family under the authority of the deadly Surrekhi Ravens (A widespread gang of pirate assassins). As a boy, Vashta (Known as Kel to his friends, a nickname derived from the Caelnya portion of his name, which is pronounced KELL-nee-uh) developed a strong ability to practice the lower state of Kinetic magic, and could even commune with spirits in the Whiteness when he was asleep. His strong ability for magic would have made him a powerful high mage, but he chose instead to study battle strategy and swordsmanship, using his powerful lower magic to augment his astounding skill with the blade.

    When Kel was 17 years old, the Surrekhi Ravens took interest in him and kidnapped him, forcing him to fight with them. Instead of fighting back against this slavery directly, Kel decided to bide his time and plot his escape. Though hard work, Kel eventually found himself on the Ravens' flagship, the Faerharre (Sorrow-bringer). When he found his opportunity, Kel escaped the ship and vanished into the Vralos wastelands. There he discovered the truth of the Archaian tyranny and began plotting to rescue his people.
