Emmit, a dragon guardian disowned like a misfit toy, managed to find the time with immortality to educate himself on how to use knives to heal as well as harm, becoming a surgeon as another way to help guard people, in some fashion. He didn't blow off dragon school, there's a family he failed that no longer exists, and it haunts him even now.
