Leonard Christian Ryder

Leo is a mutant, as evidenced by his unusual natural hair and left eye color. His mutation centres mainly around his senses and the neural network in his brain that processes them. While not having enhanced senses in the conventional sense, ( he can't see or hear clearer or further, for example) his senses are able to process multiple inputs clearly.

A good example of Leo's abilities would be being able to hear and actively follow along with every conversation heard in a crowded area at the same time, or being able to look at that crowd and instantly see and process every face in the crowd when searching for someone, rather than having to look from face to face to match them up to the person he was searching for (yes, this does make him stupidly good at Where's Waldo.) In terms of practical application, it means that feints, slight of hand and distractions will not work well, or even at all on him. It also makes him excellent at gathering information.

Leo can of course still be hidden from by moving out of his field of view, and while he can hear and process all sounds in his range of hearing, he still has to mentally process what those sounds mean. Something like a car horn for example is fairly straightforward, but a repeated scratching noise, while it could be clearly picked up and processed even among loud chattering, would still need to be investigated to see what was causing it.

While his sight and hearing are given great boosts by his mutation, his other senses are only slightly improved as follows:
Leo's sense of smell is only standard, but as he can distinguish between scents better using his mutation, he can be hard to poison if not using an odorless poison, as if he is served a poison drink he can smell both the drink's scent AND the poison's, assuming he can recognise the poison's scent of course.

His sense of touch means classic pickpocketing tricks and similar tactile deception, like "bumping", will fail; as he will feel both the bump and the wallet leaving his pocket and process both inputs.

His sense of taste, similar to smell, can pick out distinct flavors from anything he eats. Were he more cultured, he'd probably make a killing as a food critic. As with his sense of smell, this can make poisoning via ingestion difficult.

Weaknesses: Leo's mutation doesn't offer any inherit weaknesses in and of itself, but it does give more opportunity to take advantage of his senses. For example, as he will process anything in his field of view instantly, rather than having to focus on it, he can easily become overwhelmed by the amount of input. His brain has adapted to the much higher than usual data input from his eyes, but as he still has to mentally respond to what he has just seen, this can cause disorientation, confusion and occasionally dizziness as his mind fights to catch up and respond to what his senses are telling it.

Vix: since bonding with the symbiote, Leo has gained a significant boost in combat ability inherent to the beneficial nature of the partnership. When actively allowing Vix to assist him in combat, he is covered by the symbiote's form, (A form he refers to as his Vanguard mode) giving him a ridiculously tough armor that can diffuse the energy from a blow, meaning even blunt attacks ,which would normally be able to cause concussions etc even if they do no actual damage to the point of impact, would be largely mitigated. This allows him to become a humanoid tank, capable of repelling gunfire, melee blows and impacts as well as deflecting or rebounding piercing or slashing attacks.

The form also grants him superhuman strength and agility at a significant level. He is capable of lifting several tons, and this limit can be adjusted by the variable nature of the symbiote's "muscle mass", though gaining strength is usually offset with a loss in agility.
As Vix is a descendent of Venom through Carnage, he retains nearly all the abilities that Venom and Carnage developed, but both he and Leo are reluctant to make use of these unless absolutely necessary, as they do not appreciate the connection with Carnage in particular.

Due to the fact that Leo and Vix essentially share senses in this form, Leo is effectively cutoff from his mutant ability while in full Vanguard form. Vix simply does not possess the mutated gene necessary to process information the same way Leo does, so his senses are no different from a normal persons in this mode. This can be a significant weakness for Leo, so he will hesitate to cover his head unless he feels the protection will be necessary.

Vix himself is not without weakness either. Symbiotes are weak to both intense sound and fire. Vix is particularly weak to fire, and will even actively refuse to assist Leo if the area they are in has a large amount of flames present. As stated, Leo and Vix share senses when in vanguard mode, so if a strong sound based attack hits Vix, Leo will suffer the same effect due to their linked minds even if the attack would not have done as much damage if it hit him directly.

Leo is 35, and was turned when he was 30.
He served in the US military, moving from frontline combat to military police, where he made his way to the rank of major, before being requested to lead a spec ops team. It was on this assignment that his squad and the squad he was in combat with were ambush by vampires and he, the only survivor was turned. it was his survival training that saved him from the fate of burning during the daylight, as he had made his way to a cave system to hide.

  The Soldier is not a blindly loyal follower. While they exists for orders, they do not adhere to them unquestioningly. More independent than a Conformist but too tied into the idea of command to be a Loner, the Soldier applies their own techniques to others’ goals. While they may seek command themselves someday, their ambitions lie within the established hierarchy and structure. The Soldier has no compunctions about using whatever means necessary to do what needs to be done, so long as the orders to do so came from the right place.
  
  — Regain a point of Willpower when you achieve your orders’ objectives. The more difficult the orders are to fulfill, the better it feels to accomplish them. At Storyteller discretion, pulling off a spectacular success or fulfilling a lengthy mission may well be worth additional Willpower points.

  Everyone needs a shoulder to cry on. A Caregiver takes their comfort in consoling others, and people often come to them with their problems. Vampires with Caregiver Archetypes often attempt, as best they can, to protect the mortals on whom they feed. Nurses, doctors, and psychiatrists are examples of potential Caregivers. Caregiver Kindred are often the type who — tragically — Embrace mortal loves they’ve left behind in hopes of softening their loss, or even those who create situations of grief in order to ease it and thus validate themselves.

Vix is Leo's symbiote partner. He shares stats and skills with Leo, but has his own unique powers and personality.
