// Origin of Species
Approximately three thousand years before the Commonwealth of Vaults came to be, a technologically advanced civilization known as The Precursors wandered Konis. They lived in walled and mostly isolated city-states, much akin to the Vaults most Konians live in today, and would often battle each other over turf or resources - in fact, they fought so often that their Kings were desperate for alternative ways to slaying his rival's men. Thus, over the span of centuries, the scientific Seers went to extraordinary lengths to invent the most gruesome biological weapons known to mankind: viruses, toxic bombs and poisons meant to look like beer - yet what remained awfully popular throughout the ages were genetically modified animals of war, solely called into life to battle and kill their foes.
They started off as slightly bigger-than-usual canids or avians with steel talons and trackers on their wings, but soon soldiers experienced how difficult it was to handle those battle-hungry beasts, as they were very prone to not being able to tell apart their masters from their enemies once in battle-mode, as well as being generally physically and mentally unstable due to their prototypical nature and the fact that their mutations messed with their simple minds and malformed bodies.
Nevertheless, nearly every army began to utilize them in war, all except one. The city-state of Mochaistos, known for their devious viciousness in battle, refused to create any manipulated animal of their own - instead, they developed a gene so powerful that it could alter one's genes and turn men into supernatural beasts. These hybrids, simply known as Therion in the tongue of the Precursors, boasted a lust for combat unparalleled by any other entity, which, in spite of helping them win the war, also brought on the entire Precursor civilization's demise.

Even ages after the re-discovery of this vicious phenomenon, many scholars are still in the dark about which animals have been included into the cocktail of traits that the Therion strain consists of.

// Sprite and her Therion
Like most modern day shapeshifting Therion, Sprite was born with her condition. For the first 16 years of her life, she was unaware of her beastly nature, and it was only through a state-mandated exposure to Activator (masqueraded as a 'health check-up' after a factory incident) that her Therion abilities were revealed to the Vault and herself. Being an impulse-driven and emotional person by nature, Sprite and her Therion have quite the rowdy relationship, which results in poor control over her beast both in and outside of her shifted state. She takes Restrainer medications to mitigate her Therion's influence on her human form, and depends on Zero's magickal support while in her transformed state.
