|| Before the betrothed ||

Once upon a time, there was a shifter family within the nobility bloodline; a family of foxes who’s fur was as vivid as the sun’s rays, hues as brilliant as any gem, and skin as fair as snow. A family that was has happy as it was playful and cunning, with a future upon the thrown. They had just given birth to a beautiful little red kit, with hues a mix of liquid gold and bright emerald green, a child that was given the blessing of the King and Queen to wed their son upon the age of sixteen. A strong white tiger male with hues as blue as the open sky, and complexion to match her own. Same age they were, play partners they became, and lovers as time moved forward.

It started off with the meeting as kits, just seeing one another as much as possible under the watchful eyes of their parents and a few dozen armed guards. Getting used to one another’s smell, figure, and personality. To better understand that they two are friends, despite their different race. Once they were able to crawl and play they were placed in a playroom filled with toys and stuffed animals, to share space with one another and to learn to be together. The girl was curious about the boy she was seeing every day, she approached him with no fear. The boy was stubborn and shy at first, hiding behind toys and animals, even keeping some of them to himself.

But as time went on he grew close to the girl, treasuring her over the toys more and more. He enjoyed her presents over that of his parents, always excited to see her during the day, and cried whenever she had to leave for the night.

“Soon, little prince, she won’t have to leave your side.” His mother cooed reassuringly. “Soon she will be your bride to hold at nights, to show off during the day, and to love for all eternity.” It was that thought alone that drove him to treasure her more and more. Sharing his food with her, his toys, his clothes even (not knowing that she couldn’t really wear them out and about).

She had become his world even before they were bound as one. As they became of the tender age of ten they both underwent training together, in both body and mind. The girl was as cunning as could be, besting her partner in all manners of trickery. Strong the boy was, besting her in pure strength and endurance. They were the perfect match. She was his mind and soul, he was her arms and body, and together they were one. From games to spars the two were unstoppable and made both sides of their family very proud.

As her magical attributes manifested the girl had to be trained alone at nights, while the boy was taken to be taught about his kingdom to be. The stress of her training could be seen by her lover the next day, where he would massage her sore arms and legs for her before their combat training began, and after even. They supported one another that made other green with envy, her older siblings in particular.

Three males that were as proud of her as they were envious of her since their own spouses were not as capable of such. Though they could not be too mad at her, considering whom she was to marry. On top of the fact that they now train with the royal guards as well, a treat that many do not get without a price to pay. There was, however, one brother that could not get over his envy, Isen. Isen was the eldest of the four siblings who lacked in magical abilities, having to rely more on his cunning mind overpowers that his family held.

He was shunned for a while when the news was first found out until his brother was born. He became the example, even though one does not have magic one can still strive for glory. However, that wasn’t good enough for Isen, he wanted more, always. Though his sister held a soft spot in his heart he couldn’t get over the fact of how easy she has had it her whole life. Since she was now licked with the royal family it gave him resources that turned his mind bitter.
