• Description

  Yabuqa acts like the perfect project. Inflectionless, unfailingly polite and deferential, and permissive of touch and examination. This act lasts exactly as long as it's required. When the facade falls, he's a determined and passionate researcher, quick to seize any opportunity for research or self-upgrades. He'll also seize any opportunity to fight, even when he knows he'll lose, because he can learn from it and become stronger. He's masochistic in his love of accepting pain, the intense thrill of it cutting into his calm facade, and too he can easily be lost in the thrill of combat. It makes him feel alive, and he loves that.
  
  While he is a slave, and he detests that state, he's found ways to work around it- primarily through an indulgent Garlean defector who's taken him under her wing- and he's content to accept his position as it helps him advance his hopes of becoming stronger. The only part of it he truly hates is the expectation of serving as a pleasure slave when demanded. That a part of him likes it, deep down, only adds to his intense vehemence.
  
  In the end, he's an upgraded warrior whose upgrades are malfunctioning and slowly killing him. A bitter irony that his reckless attempts to seize power is having precisely the opposite effect, but there is still time for him to be repaired and alter course. For now.

  Ashleigh Forsythe: The ex-Garlean technologist who's taken Yabuqa's well-being as her own responsibility. Yabuqa fears her for the power she can hold over him, yet he has also come to accept that she doesn't wish to use it and is looking out for him. He trusts her, and sees his destiny as intertwined with hers, at least for now.
  

  Salvatrix Saistenioux: Doctor and geneticist, she knows some of Yabuqa's upgrades and has given him clearance to perform as a gladiator. Her mention of genetic upgrades and biological augmentation intrigues Yabuqa, and he plans to cautiously explore this option as time goes on.
