Jude and his twin brother, Greyson were born into a family that was destined to never work out. The father was a drunk even before they were born, and the mother was mentally unstable with voices in her head. Something Jude never really understood. Both Greyson and the mother used to talk to animals and people who weren't there, and for Jude it was just a normal thing. Despite the strange, unstable personality the mother wore, Jude loved her so dearly, but he was never loved the same way his brother was. He never understood his mother's pain and misery, he never heard voices from people who were not there, he was just him. All alone. For a while he thought he was the odd one, but as him and Greyson grew older it came clear who wasn't like everybody else.
High school was, against all expectations, a nice time for him. Finally he was seen, heard, and interesting, while his brother was a freak. The lack of confidence was gained in a relentless sought of approval and validation between the young vile, ruthless teens with also hard a strong need to step on the weakest link in the food chain, to be accepted by the crowd. While Greyson was in center of attention at home, Jude was part of the "cool kids" ruled high school. It was like everything changed when Jude and Greyson were adopted by the Valentines, which they were already at the age of 13. The Valentines were a warm, loving, caring, catholic family from Texas who believed in the best in people, and did everything in their power to take care of the people they loved. Jude both loved and hated that about them. While their focus was set on Greyson and his mental health, Jude was allowed to to whatever he felt like and in a way he was almost kind of ... forgotten and thrown in the shadow of his brother's chaos. Once again, Greyson was their favorite, which only strengthened Jude's hatred towards his brother. Jude had never been in a spotlight - good or bad, nothing. Luckily his cousin, Tony Goyette and him had a lot in common, and they both developed a friendship primarily based on their mutual hate towards Greyson. Unfortunately Tony lived in Austin, while the Valentines were based in Oklahoma for a couple of years.
When Greyson was diagnosed with depression he tried to take his own life. This brought everything in a new perspective for Jude. A strong emotional bond between them were strengthened, and Jude realized how hard things must've been for Greyson. Never had Jude been close to feeling as bad as Greyson, so he would take his own life, never had he been able to, or will he be able to solidate with his brother's strong emotions. They had a moment, a precious little moment of brotherly love, and Jude promised he would never leave Greyson alone in this world. But of course, promises are difficult to keep, and some of their meanings are "larger" than others, but Jude tried, and he still tries to take care of Greyson till this day, in his own, strange, twisted way.
