Body Type: Slim by human standards but unusually pear shaped with wider hips which is unusual for her race

Height: 5'2" which is about average for her species

Weight: 75 lbs, which while light by human standards is a bit on the heavy side for her own people

Hair: Rather than hair, Garnet has long, silky white and black feathers that sprout from her head, the back of her neck and the tops of her shoulders and fall down her back, Despite the societal expectations of her people, Garnet prefers to let her feathers grow as long and thick together as they like, giving her a rather wild appearance as Atashi people go

Eyes: Large and perfectly black with no whites to be seen

Scars: There's a slight discoloration on her right leg where she broke it at a young age

Identifiable Features: Along with the rest of Garnet's unusual appearance she also possessed mixed black and white vestigial tail feathers, They range in length from 6" to a few that are nearly 3' long and are connected to her body right at the base of her spine, The skin around where these feathers protrude is a little rough and scaly like the talons on her feet

Personality: In public Garnet is the epitome of her kind, punctual, straight laced and by the book. Driven and ambitious, she is always careful to observe all necessary formalities and meet every expectation above and beyond. Inside, however, she's honestly a bit of a rebel though she only bucks convention in the mildest of ways for now. Garnet is extremely patient and is willing to wait until she's earned enough wealth and reputation before she can finally let loose and be the woman she knows herself to be inside. To do the things she isn't supposed to do, go to the places she isn't supposed to go, revel in the things she isn't supposed to want. She's also very proud of her accomplishments and reputation and will go to great lengths to make sure people are aware of both and neither are tarnished. At least not until she's properly prepared for the fall out.

An avian based species, the Atashi are originally from a warm, lush planet with deep red seas, massive vegitation and small but extremely harsh poles. Unfortunately Atash went through an extinction level cooling event a few hundred years ago. While the planet isn't completely uninhabitable, most of the native inhabitants have chosen life among the stars rather than scratching out what meager of an existence they can manage on the planet's surface. There is still one large capital city near the equator that's flourishing and most Atashi make it a point to visit this haven of culture and history at least once every five cycles or so.

Atashi culture is surprisingly weight based. Those of a lower weight (which often means a smaller height and/or thinner build) are considered more beautiful and thus find it easier to gain power and accumulate wealth. Most anthropologists attribute this ideal to the original tree dwelling Atashi who would build their homes within the treetops. Those able to settle upon the highest branches had the best chance of avoiding predators and therefore passing on their genes to the next generation. Obviously, the higher in the tree one goes, the less weight the branches can bear. Though this survival instinct has long since ceased to be necessary, the idea is ingrained into their culture, taboos, and ideals of beauty none the less. It even affects their fashion, as most Atashi wear as little clothing as possible and what they do is rather shockingly tight, not in order to show off their bodies, but because it means less cloth which means less weight.

The Atashi as a whole are also extremely rule and caste based. While it is possible to rise from a lower caste to a higher one, the requirements can often be so rigorous that most simply give up and accept their lot in life. Most often caste is based first one birth (race and parentage), next by weight and finally by skill in a pre-approved profession. Formal and bureaucratic to a fault, Atashi are known as excellent middle managers, space ship captains and diplomats.


There are several races within the Atashi species with various types of coloration, height and other smaller variations which delineate their planetary heritage though all Atashi can be recognized by their feather 'hair,' clawed hands and feet, brightly colored skin and surprisingly long and prehensile tongues. Garnet is a Pata'ni Ha, which roughly translates to Sunset Swooper. Sunset Swoopers tend to have skin color that varies from a deep reddish violet to a pale carnation pink. Their feathers are most likely either white, black, yellow or purple, and sometimes a mix of these depending on their parentage. Swoopers generally also possess longer than average vestigial tail feathers, average to above average heights, and are known for their love of the sea and water in general.

For anyone aware of Atashi culture, it is clear that despite Garnet's seemingly straight laced demeanor, some level of rebellion is harbored within her soul. That rebellion can be seen in the massive amount of feathers upon her head that she refuses to trim back to what would be considered 'proper' (more feathers equal more weight) and the fact that she hasn't had any of the usual body modifications done to cut back on her weight and size. While such things are becoming more common among the younger generation as they slowly attempt to slough off the chains of their past, it can still invoke strange looks from her elders and surprise from other species who have only interacted with Atashi that continue to adhere their appearance to the cultural norms.

Garnet is currently a member of the Na'dai (roughly translates to Sturdy Branch), a large middle-ish level caste which generally work as scientists, ship crewmen, star port managers, general bureaucrats and the like.
