Naywain’s story begins many years before her birth, with the start of her great grandfather’s business in Püertagœ’s eighth ring. Born from old money, he had every opportunity to do whatever he wished with his life and name, but being the youngest of six sons, knew better than to expect to live on his elder brother’s coattails the rest of his days. Acquiring a sizeable loan from his father, he established an apprenticeship and eventually, a plaster sculpting business of his own. Prestige and affluence were not his, he worked hard all his days, but that sort of wealth and reputation takes generations. It was his grandson, many years later who finally was able to appreciate and enjoy such a legacy. Ironic then, that his daughter Naywain, wished to build a name for herself, aside from the wealth her family name had amassed through the last century…
any means poor, nor were they the wealthy elite. Yet life was good, Naywain’s belly was never empty and if she fell ill, was never without medicine. As such, she grew with the aid of an apothecary’s care for the patches of scales on her body, to ease the itch and keep them moist to avoid irritation. She had friends among the legged Sk’alik to teach her precious pieces of her heritage and it’s limits, and although she was always teased for not closely resembling other human children, she was happy. In this way, the missing fragments of her family, namely her mother, and her identity as a being split between two worlds, never seemed to plague her too deep- and when they did, there was always art.
Naywain, the shop is perfect. In her free time away from working for her father’s comissions, she practices creating sculptures from coral and driftwood, that she one day hopes to sell often enough to make a living. This often requires free diving off the shore for the materials used in making her art, leaving Naywain toned and strong, and often brushing the dried salt from her skin.
