• Description

  When you first meet Guy Newcombe, it's easy to write him off as a blustering bastard. It's only when you take the time to get to know him that you find out... he actually is that much of a blustering bastard. Using his front of borderline callousness is his go-to strategy for solving problems, negotiating, making friends, and on rare occasions flirting. With enough time around him, it becomes easier to tell what flavor of jerk he's being. That said, most people don't put up with him for quite that long. If he's acting genuinely, outwardly nice to someone, he's either trying to get something out of them or is about a step and a half shy of proposing marriage.
  
  From the head of shaggy red hair that has never behaved itself once to the wardrobe visibly chosen through comfort and not aesthetics, Guy's entire appearance smacks of apathy. He's more than a little nearsighted, and when clean-shaven (which he usually is), he often gives off the awkward, gangly air of a teenager well into adulthood. He tends to cover up any displays of emotion in layers of sarcasm and abrasion. It's also rare that he doesn't smell at least vaguely of alcohol, with scotch as his drink of choice.
  
  Regardless of the setting, Guy's upbringing was conservative at best, and it tends to shape how he views himself as he comes into his own. The exact degree of their impact varies, but his devoutly religious parents still left him with at least a little internalized homophobia to work through, made all the more difficult when he comes to terms with his own attraction to men. It's usually kept internal as well, directed more at himself than at other queer people. No matter who he's with, whether it's romantic, platonic, or somewhere in between, Guy is slow to open up to new relationships, and it takes some coaxing to figure out what's just posturing and what's the real Guy.
