    Garris. An Averine to some, an Olivier to others, but a known bastard child to all. Born to two lesser members of both houses (one married, the other not), Garris' very existence was just enough of an excuse to cause hostilities. He was raised among his elven half family, and protected by his mother, Elpheba Averine, despite her husband Jhaeros' protests. Though it was probably at least partially because she loved him, Garris couldn't help but feel like it was also because her pride was at stake. His siblings weren't always the kindest to him, but he caught on quickly that it had more to do with the situation his birth put the family in, and not he himself. Having darker skin, more human features, and no apparent affinity for magic, he stuck out like a sore thumb among them, reminding them all even more of Elpheba's portrayal. Despite his mother's insistence that he was just fine the way he was, he was forced to shave, wear clothes tailored for his elvish siblings, and have his features magically altered out to fit his elvish family, something he still refuses to talk about.

    He left home as soon as he could, fond of neither magic nor those who preyed on the week. He didn’t have a direction or much in the way of provisions; just a gut feeling, a broken lute, and a rusty knife. After he fixed his lute, Garris made his living on the streets, playing for food. The one skill he kept from his time in his broken home was his affinity for music. Soon after bumming around a nearby city, he bought a harmonica, smug in knowing it would piss off his father to see him play such a, “peasant’s instrument.” Following his rebellious streak, Garris cut his hair short, grew out his facial hair, and dressed as a normal civilian. But given all these new ways of expressing himself, Garris got caught up in something important: he didn't know who he was. Was he just some bastard brat who didn't have a clue? A big, loveable goofball with a terrible childhood? Just another face? He found himself being gruff with anyone outside of performances, ready but not sure how to trust someone.
