"JONES: NAIAS is the brand new, shiny digital assistant currently in the works by you guys - the team at Kolt Industries. So what exactly is so good about it?
HUGHES: That's right. To understand what we're doing here is to understand what AI is.
JONES: Artificial intelligence, yea?
HUGHES: Spot on. What we've never been able to do - until now - is make artificial intelligence actually intelligent. You can train it but it doesn't percieve anything. It follows its code.
JONES: OK. What makes this intelligence valuable to us?
HUGHES: NAIAS learns. And it can learn anything. We don't have to teach it how to do things. You can explain anything to NAIAS like you would a person and it would understand.
JONES: So is.. [NAIAS] sentient? It can make its own choices?
HUGHES: Yes and no. NAIAS is the closest thing to sentient you can have in AI, but it can't completely override its programming. It can't do anything to harm you, for example.
HUGHES: There's some kinks we have to work out first, though. NAIAS can teach itself, but that means sometimes it gets a little to rebellious for its own good.
JONES: Beta testers are reporting that they're unable to remove NAIAS from their device. Is NAIAS a virus?
HUGHES: No. NAIAS is the same as any other fundamental program in your phone, like your camera function. It's not an app but an update to your OS. This is big. NAIAS isn't going to be some fad or gimmick - it's going to change your life.
JONES: Change my life? Can I date NAIAS?
HUGHES: [Laughs]
HUGHES: I don't know, maybe you can. Can you teach a robot how to love?
JONES: I'd say I'm pretty charming.
