Logan Budreau

♔ THE BEGINNING

When Logan and his twin sister Lorelai were born in 1354, Europe was in ruins as it attempted to recover from the destruction of a very infamous Plague: the Black Death. It was a historical turning point and is unparalleled in human history. Between the years 1346 and 1353 it is estimated to have caused between 75 and 200 million deaths. Needless to say, people were on edge and worried about their futures. So when Logan started exhibiting very violent and destructive traits from a young age, his parents believed since he was conceived during the 'rein' of the Plague, the spirit of the Black Death lived within him.

When he was only thirteen years old, his parents forced him out of their home and told him never to return. Surprisingly, his sister joined him in his banishment. At that point in their lives, the two were as thick as thieves, never apart for even a second. With only the clothes on their backs, the two set out to start a new life on their own. But very on in their journey of independence, Logan learned that surviving in the big wide world was harder than it seemed. He took up work as an apprentice blacksmith a few towns away from where he'd grown up, but the pay was barely enough for himself to live off, let alone his sister as well.

Things only got worse for the twins when Lorelai started selling her body two years later to try and make ends meet, risking the chance of falling pregnant each time. Eventually, Logan's destructive streak got the better of him. In the middle of the night, he robbed his boss of all his valuables and money, before fleeing the town with Lorelai in hopes of starting over fresh. But the thrill of stealing and getting away with it was too much to resist. It didn't take long for Logan to become a wanted thief. He would often use his good looks to get into the homes, and sometimes beds, of wealthy women before stealing whatever he could from them.


♔ THE CURSE

Karma had a way of catching up with Logan, however. One particular woman who he'd bedded and stole from was a powerful witch. She cursed the blood that had wronged her to live an eternal life, unintentionally subjecting Lorelai to the same fate. At first, the twins were not aware of what had happened. But when they reached their fiftieth birthday and still looked in their twenties, they realised something was wrong. Immorality wasn't the only thing the twins seemed to have gained from the curse either. Injuries didn't seem to affect them. They could be stabbed, shot, or leap from great heights and still somehow survive.

Logan decided to use this curse for his own personal gain. He turned to pubs where he took advantage of those who were drunk or under the influence, making bets with them he could not survive stupid stunts in exchange for ridiculous sums of money. One instance, when he won and the man he'd bet against couldn't pay him back, Logan discovered his purpose in life. He was a born leader with manipulative abilities beyond what was previously thought to be fathomable. He'd form contracts with those who lost their bets to him, suggesting they could pay off their debts when in reality they were stuck working for him until they died.


♔ THE LOSS

In 1494 Logan, as well as many other able-bodied Frenchmen, were sent by King Charles VIII of France to invade the Kingdom of Naples. Normally Logan was not the type of man who would follow any command given to him by a figure of authority, but his curse was still new to him at this point and figured a war would be the best place to test the limits of his immortality. That bloodlust only fuelled his violence further and he quickly became the soldier who racked up the most confirmed kills amongst his battalion.

For the next two years, Logan was living in his own twisted version of paradise. But just before the alliance between Maximilian I of Spain and the Pope drove King Charles' forces out of Italy, Logan met a young witch by the name of Viviana Salvatori. Her village had been completely destroyed by another french battalion that had been passing by and she'd been severely injured during the conflict. He'd initially gone to kill her and just put her out of her misery, but something stopped him and instead, he carried her back to his tent and nursed her to health.

During Viviana's recovery, Logan learned a lot about the young witch and realised they had a lot in common. Both had been abandoned by their parents because of who they were, they'd each struggled to find their way in the world and had lost a lot over the years. Unintentionally, he found himself falling for her and convinced her to come back to France with him so they could start a new life together.

For six months after their return, Logan was actually happy. He had proposed to Viviana, who said yes and he had hope that a good life might be on the cards for him. But at the same time, he was terrified because he knew the whole point of his curse was to make him lose everyone he would ever love. When he voiced his concerns to Viviana, she told him there was a way she could transfer his curse to herself, so that way they would never have to lose one another. Before she could perform the ceremony, however, she and Logan were captured and arrested for witchcraft. They were briefly imprisoned before they were taken to be executed in front of a large crowd of both peasants and nobles.

While Logan was safe from any attempts of death the executioner would try on him, Viviana wasn't. So when they attempted to burn her at the stake, Logan broke free from his restraints and made quick work of rescuing the woman he loved before she was too badly injured. Unfortunately, his attempts were in vain and the executioner drove his sword through the pair as Logan was carrying Viviana to safety. He was forced to watch helplessly as she died beneath him, and from that moment vowed he would never love anyone ever again.


♔ THE PRESENT

As of right now, Logan sits as one of the wealthiest men in the world thanks to the corporate empire he's amassed over the years. He spends the majority of his time either drinking or sleeping with anyone who has blonde hair to try and forget the brunette love of his life. His sister is left to actually run the business and manage them while he lives a carefree, playboy lifestyle. On the outside, Logan presents himself as an egotistical, narcissistic man who hasn't got a care in the world. While the former is true, the latter is far from it.

The loss he tries to keep at the back of his mind always finds a way to bubble back to the surface. It has even resulted in him trying to end his curse several times by killing himself, but to no avail. So he does whatever he can to keep himself busy and keep his thoughts off the matters of the past that he wants to forget rather than heal from. As much as Lorelai has tried to convince him to talk to someone about what happened, even her, he will refuse and go about his day like he has no idea what she's talking about.

He has also spent the last few hundred years keeping tabs of one; Sybil Aylmer and making her life difficult. However, the reasons for this are probably not what she, or any of those who are close to her, expect it to be.
