Major Ralph J. Shipton

Ralph is a very skilled mage. Though he prefers academic research and trying to figure out how half-forgotten spells from long ago would have worked, he was a battlemage in the Great War. He used magic to make life in the trenches more bearable for his men, but also had to learn how to effectively use spells in a battle environment. Unexpectly, he really took to it. Ralph was a senior battlemage, and was unfortunately picked for necromancy duty a few times. Having a good understanding of medical magic, Ralph was a good necromancer. He hates it, however, finding it disdainful and a horrific practice.

The fuels he usually carries are:

• Whale oil
• Sperm oil
• Rendered dolphin blubber
• Narwhal tusk shavings
• Baleen whale bone slices
• Squid ink
• Raven blood with anticoagulant
• Magpie + raven feathers
• Raven bone fragments
• Ash from cremated corvids and parrots

Some examples of the magic Ralph can do:

• Weatherproofing (squid ink)
• Bringing a lightning bolt down from the skies (raven feathers)
• Translation (magipie feather)
• A shield made to withstand a brief amount of gunfire (whale oil)
• Wayfinding (raven bone fragments)
• Cleaning a wound (squid ink)
• Staunching bleeding for a brief period (whale oil)
• A wall of fire (whale oil)
• Psychological torture - this is illegal, but as an AMCS operative, Ralph is allowed to do this in the name of getting information. He prefers to use his natural guile, but will use this when he absolutely has to (raven blood)
