THE PRINCELING
BOUND BY DUTY AND TRADITION ![]() Zoran Illarion Romanov was born in Os Alta, heir to the throne of Ravka, and from his very first breath the weight of a crown settled over his shoulders. To his parents—the king and queen—he was the perfect future sovereign, the only child destined to inherit the Grand Palace. But Zoran dreamed of anything but the throne. He longed for freedom, for the laughter of ordinary people, for adventures beyond the gilded walls that bound him. Still, he kept his silence. Duty came first, and he would not disappoint his parents. Life at the Grand Palace was routine and stifling. Lessons, meals, endless etiquette—until everything changed when Zoran turned eleven. That was when Zoran’s gift revealed itself. He could summon and bend water with ease, a Tidemaker of unusual power. His father had little choice but to send him to the Little Palace, for if the Crown ignored the Small Science in their own bloodline, others might feel emboldened to deny their children’s duty to the Second Army. The king’s decision was political, not paternal, but Zoran embraced it eagerly. Training was freedom. Training was purpose. At the Little Palace, Zoran found more than power. He found friendship. Gavriil Rodion Starkov, heir to one of Ravka’s oldest aristocratic families, was everything Zoran was not: fiery, action-driven, and impossibly loyal. They became inseparable. Where Zoran plotted, Gavriil charged. Where Zoran charmed his way out of trouble, Gavriil shouldered the blame. Together they rose through the ranks, their talents undeniable—Zoran’s mastery of water and Gavriil’s rare gift of summoning shadows. So rare, in fact, that the king himself demanded Gavriil join the royal guard to protect his heir. Zoran was secretly delighted. In a palace full of vipers, he had one true friend. When the time came for military service, Zoran defied tradition. He refused the cushioned officer’s path reserved for royalty and nobles, choosing instead to serve as an ordinary soldier. He fought, bled, and endured alongside common Ravkans, earning every promotion until he held the rank of Major by right, not birth. When his service ended, he did not return to court. Instead, he disappeared—with Gavriil at his side. Officially, he claimed to apprentice with shipwrights, engineers, and gunsmiths, excelling at every craft he touched. But in truth, he fled. Fled from his father’s tightening grip, from the rot festering behind the palace walls, from the cage of the crown. At sea, Zoran shed his name. As “Rion,” he carved out a new life for himself as a privateer. Few knew his true identity; to most, he was simply a cunning captain with a loyal crew, feared and respected in equal measure. Ironically, as a pirate prince in disguise, he did more for Ravka’s war effort than he ever had as soldier or heir. With freedom came strength, and with strength came victory. But freedom never lasts. While Rion roamed the seas, the Shu struck at Ravka, and whispers of the king’s failing health spread like wildfire. The throne—his throne—teetered on the edge of ruin. Zoran had spent his life running from duty, but now there was no escaping it. Ravka was in great peril, and only he had the power to save it. For Zoran Illarion Romanov, runaway prince and privateer captain, there was only one path left: return home, claim the crown he had rejected, and wield it as the weapon Ravka needed.
“When people say impossible, they usually mean improbable.”
— Leigh Bardugo Yet the sea, as ever, had its own plans. Zoran had finally made his choice: to sail back to Ravka, to reclaim his birthright and mend what had been broken in his absence. With Gavriil at his side, he set his course for Os Alta, determined to face the crown he had once fled. But as their ship cut across the True Sea, fate struck with merciless fury. A storm descended without warning, a tempest that seemed almost unnatural in its wrath. Towering waves crashed against the hull, tearing wood apart as if it were paper. Lightning split the skies, and the wind howled with such force it drowned even the cries of men. Zoran fought with every ounce of his strength. He summoned walls of water, trying to bend the storm to his will, but this storm was wilder, stronger—something he could not master. Amid the chaos, he saw Gavriil grappling with the rigging, shadows writhing at his command to shield what little remained of the crew. Then the deck split apart, a deafening crack swallowing the world, and in the chaos they were torn away from each other. One moment Zoran’s closest friend was there; the next, he was gone into the black waters. Salt burned his lungs as the sea dragged him under. His power failed him, strength ebbing as the abyss swallowed his senses. Darkness closed in—until warmth touched him. Arms, strong yet strangely delicate, pulled him from the depths. When Zoran woke, it was to the sound of waves against stone, his body sprawled upon a rocky shore. Standing above him was a figure he did not recognize: a woman, dark and striking, her beauty as fierce as the storm itself. Her name was Stelmaria. She had dragged him back from death’s embrace, though her eyes gave nothing away—pools of mystery that hinted at secrets she would not share. To Zoran, weakened and alone, she was both savior and enigma. Whether she had spared him out of kindness, design, or something altogether more dangerous, he could not yet tell. All he knew was that he was alive—and fate had placed this mysterious woman between him and the road back to Ravka. |

Enthusiastic, charming and clever the Gemini man is good at almost anything he puts his mind to and can make anyone laugh. Add this to his light and inquisitive personality and he has a lot of sex appeal. He is very friendly and communicative by nature, and this can sometimes be seen as flirtatious. Gemini’s are amongst the intellectuals of the zodiac, known for their cleverness, curiosity and excellent communication. Always questioning and often insightful they’re typically fascinating and light spirited companions with a diverse knowledge. Highly adaptable, they’re fast thinkers and fast talkers, often able to get inside other peoples heads while discussing almost anything. Due to this your Gemini man is likely to be highly adept at flirting and very hard to beat in an argument. Being so insightful comes with a price. Everything has multiple sides, and often maintaining a fixed viewpoint is the only thing which allows an order to made from chaos. While the meaning of the twins is often taken as being two-faced, it really represents multiple viewpoints of the same subject. This mental complexity is however sometimes misconstrued as being contradictory, superficial or unreliable. Dynamic and exciting he’s easily bored and favors variety in all things. He probably has multiple interests, each holding his telescopic attention for short bursts. |

|ETHEREALKI|
Etherealki, or the Order of Summoners, are Grisha whose power lies in the manipulation of different natural elements. This Order is divided into Squallers, Inferni and Tidemakers. The order is loosely referred to as Summoners, and Etherealki typically train in pairs; Inferni partner with other Inferni, while Squallers and Tidemakers are usually train together.
|TIDEMAKER|
Tidemakers are Grisha of the Etherealki Order who can manipulate water, and Zoran is no exception. As a Tidemaker, Zoran is bound to the ocean’s will. Zoran calls the sea to rise and answer his command. He can bend currents, summon crashing waves, or still the waters into deceptive calm. His connection to the sea is intimate, almost melodic—the waters whisper to him, carrying secrets from distant shores and warnings of what lurks beneath. In combat, he can merge storm and tide, creating tidal surges charged with lightning or whirlpools that drag enemies into the depths. Yet the sea is not easily mastered; it demands balance, and if Zoran pushes too far, the ocean’s hunger threatens to claim him as its own. In the Second Army, Tidemakers wear a blue kefta with pale blue embroidery—but Zoran has always cared less for uniform than mastery, and more for the power coursing through his hands.
|PRIVATEER|
A privateer is more than just a sailor—it is a sovereign’s weapon disguised as a rogue, a ship and crew operating outside the constraints of the navy, yet striking in the name of war. For Zoran, it is freedom with purpose. As a privateer, he can move where the Ravkan navy cannot, strike where it dares not, and gather resources that no crown-sanctioned fleet could claim. In the months and years he sailed under the name Rion, he realized he had done more for Ravka’s war effort from the deck of his ship than he ever had wearing the uniform of a soldier—or the gilded robes of a prince. |
