Opsia is a mutant, more specifically a multiclops variant, with 12 eyes. In Vox, mutants are considered the lowest in the social ranking. They don't fit into the human-centric beauty standard, they're a symbol of careless love (it's well known which monster species don't mesh well), and they're usually a magic accident waiting to happen. The Monarchy themselves have denounced mutants.
Growing up, Opsia was always the odd one out. In class, in public, in general. She was extremely close to her parents but especially her dad. Since her mother is a doctor, whenever she got home from school she would spend all of her free time with her father. She often attended his arena fights or play fought with him. She developed a love for exercise and adventure. Opsia has a unique magic ability that no one else has-copy magic. If the magic is visible she can duplicate it and save it for later. She has to learn how to use it, but once she learns it she has it forever.
Opsia managed to make one friend growing up, a satyr named Ferasylv who was also a social outcast. They balanced each other out well. A calm, reasonable boy and a wild, adventurous girl. His mother was also an arena fighter.
Naturally, both of their parents died. Arena fighters always die. That's the only way out. Both kids were around 18.
They both became arena fighters shortly after. Opsia's favorite hobby was sparring and it was an easy, high-paying job. She also felt like she had to, to carry on her father's legacy. He was undefeated and she would be too.
She doesn't enjoy the job and she's indifferent to the fame and money, but she is incredibly good. She'd unintentionally spent here entire life training for it. And the crowd loves seeing a mutant dance around for them.
These arena fights are always to the death.
Opsia's fame has led to more bad than good. She's a celebrity, but a mutant celebrity often gets bad attention. Mutants are fetishized or treated as entertainment rather than a person and she's very aware of this.
