    MERITS
    ■ Thin-Blood Alchemist: The Duskborn change as they feed. Thin-Blood Alchemy is the mastery of this process. An accident at first, Jona has learned through trial and error how to manipulate the properties of his blood to create strange and empowering elixirs by mixing it with other substances and materials. Through further experience or comparing notes with other bloodcookers, he may yet learn more formulae to help him and his friends survive these perilous nights.

    ■ Discipline Affinity (Potence): Possibly leftover from his sire, Jona has developed an affinity for the "Potence" Discipline, which he continues to exercise and expand upon through experience, as if he were a normal vampire training an out-of-clan Discipline. Drinking blood with matching Resonance does not reward him with any extra power in this Discipline, temporary or not.

    ■ Vampiric Resilience: Jona suffers damage as a regular vampire, treating regular puncture and slashing wounds as Superficial damage, rather than Aggravated.

    FLAWS
    ■ Clan Curse: Remnants of the Brujah blood of Jona's sire still flow through his veins, carrying traces of their ancient curse. As a result, he has a Bane Severity of 1.

    ■ Bestial Temper: Having inherited his sire's clan bane, Jona is afflicted with the Beast equal to a full vampire. He has to muster the willpower to resist frenzy as per the normal vampire rules. The fact that he maintains such a firm grip on his humanity in spite of this only further emphasizes his strength of will.

    ■ Branded by the Camarilla: In some cities, the rulers simply hunt down and destroy Thin-Bloods. In other cities, the merciful Sheriff merely brands them, forcibly and painfully, to remind them of their place. Still, many are then hunted down and destroyed, often on perceived slights or simple whims. Jona has such an unhealing brand and the Camarilla makes sure to keep its eyes peeled for the moment he steps out of line. Only a matter of time before they realize he's gone full Anarch.

    ■ Prey Exclusion (Non-Consenting): Because Jona is a Consensualist (meaning he only feeds from the willing), it's more difficult for him to feed forcibly if he has to.

  • Author's Note

    My character sheet here is set at its beginner stats, but for the sake of RPs that take place after Jona has some experience under his belt and we want to bypass the training wheels stage, I might add a more leveled-up version. Still, I figure it might be of interest to some to see which stats I prioritized at the start. That said, being a Thin-Blood, Jona doesn't actually start out with a "predator type." However, I intend to pursue the Consensualist predator type once he gets situated and is able to establish his feeding habits, so I put it here as a placeholder. It can still change, depending on how the roleplay goes, so nothing's set in stone.

    Regarding "Leadership," while I see it as an attribute Jona would naturally take to (being the up-and-coming revolutionary and all), I think that's more of a status that has to be earned through actual experience (not just experience points), so I'd like to level that up through gameplay. One way I've seen this done before had the Storyteller reward a player with a dot of Leadership because of how well-roleplayed her rousing speech to a group of Anarchs was. I think this could apply to other skills, attributes, and disciplines that involve growing as you go or learning through study and practice, which could be represented in-game as some sort of downtime activities or minigames. These may need to be spread out across several nights or span an entire scene to earn a point or specialty from them, with his progress being tracked over the course of them. A dice roll could determine how quickly and efficiently he's learning. Below are a few examples just to give an idea of what I'm going for.

    • "Jona devotes the next couple of hours to his driver's ed course."
    • "The Thin-Blood alchemist spends the night in his Tremere study buddy's quarters, poring over their personal library to expand his knowledge of the occult."
    • "The fledgling Anarch's Brujah comrade took their time off guard duty to show him how to wield a sidearm. Apparently, it's easier for a Camarilla ghoul to call your bluff when you've still got the safety on."
    • "Jona enlists in a personal trainer to whip him into better shape."
    • "Mr. Heart watches a YouTube video on how to tie a tie to brush up on his etiquette."

    I guess all this would fall under "Extended Tests" (p. 293 in the V5 core rulebook).

  • Appearance

    Jonathan Heart is a lithe, five-foot-eleven, twenty-two-pound young adult with dark brown, medium-length curls, which look almost black against high-contrast backgrounds or when wet. Said curls dangle over his pale face like the silhouette of tree branches or vines twisting in every direction against the moon. While his pale complexion is noteworthy by regular human standards, he is still significantly more lifelike than his fellow 'kin', given how far-removed his vampiric blood is from their progenitor, Caine, and the curse it carries. Even among fellow Thin-Bloods, Jona may seem to be becoming more kine than Kindred as time passes by. Some attribute it to how firmly he clings to the phantom limb of his humanity and rejection of the Beast within him, but most scoff at such optimism.

    Jona's wardrobe wasn't exactly remarkable in life (although his mostly-dark apparel isn't ill-fitting for his current status), but in undeath, he's adapted it to make his nocturnal activities easier. In a messenger bag, he keeps ingredients for his Thin-Blood Alchemy recipes. Underneath his hoodies and jackets is a portable, wearable IV vest called the "IV-Walk," designed by Alissa Rees. Concealed by the vest are a few IV tubes connected to bags containing different "resonances" of blood (each determined by the donor's emotional state). This makes it quicker and easier for Jona to concoct his Thin-Blood cocktails on the fly, since he never knows what power he might need each night.

    Jona tends to pair his shirts with an extra layer of some sort. Usually a jacket, hoodie, or coat. He doesn't exactly have the most colorful assortment of shirts, with most being black, grey, beige, or faded blue or green. He's found that deep red isn't a terrible fit for when he's doing his blood alchemy in what passes for him as a lab. His pants are usually black, blue, or faded variants of either and consist of jeans, work pants, and cargo pants, which are useful for storing even more alchemical ingredients or other handy tools. The more pockets, the merrier (though he's not about to become a full-on Rob Liefeld character). Usually one to overdress and conceal his modest physique, you won't find any shorts on him... aside from boxer shorts, anyway, but you probably don't want him walking in on you rummaging through his underwear drawer unless you want to force a "Blush of Life" out of him.

    On that note, despite not having some of the more ghastly features certain vampire clans do (thus not really needing to "blush up," for the most part), Jona prefers to wear a black, cloth facemask while out and about, as it helps with anonymity (especially being an Anarch, thus making him a target for the oppressive Camarilla, which has eyes everywhere) and social interaction in general. The mask doesn't come across as too odd in a post-pandemic world, though it can make him subject to teasing by some for still ‘masking’.

    Branded by the Camarilla before he was able to break away, Jona had the mark of the third quarter moon (a half moon illuminated on the left side) tattooed onto his left pectoral by a Tremere blood sorcerer (as an ordinary tattoo would have simply healed soon after). The tattoo is unassuming to most, but can glow a faint red to those with the “Sense the Unseen” power or some skill in blood sorcery.

  • Some visual references to get an idea of what Jona looks like. I do not own most of the art and I’ve labeled that which I do. I will remove images upon the artist's request. Some of the art is edited slightly to closer resemble the character. I'm an artist, myself, so hopefully I can get over my art block soon and post more drawings of my own. I'm also sorry to say that I don't know a whole lot about the characters in the art. They just happen to look close to what I had in mind for the character (aside from most of them having black hair instead of dark brown).
