  • Detailed personality

    Ophanim seems aloof most of the time, blending in with human people when he's around them. He's dry and quiet, but polite to strangers and tends to ask them questions about their current emotional state-- subtly. Sadness piques his interest, and he quickly appears sympathetic, kind, and nurturing to those he sees struggling. It's all in an effort to gain their trust, and eventually, he convinces them to commit suicide. He's perpetually feeling isolated, wanting them to come back as angels trapped on earth like him.

    When he isn't putting on an act for his victims, he's fairly irritable, pessimistic, and gloomy, prone to having outbursts when things frustrate him too much. It's either that or he's entirely apathetic and nearly unresponsive to his surroundings, and he can sit like that for days. He's slow to trust others and is constantly stuck in a pit of guilt and self-deprecation. However, if he does take a genuine liking to someone, he is incredibly protective and domestic in nature (having been brought up doing household chores, he's good at them). Begrudgingly, he's a sucker for being soothed and engaging in mushy things.

    ~Spoilers ahead, I didn't censor them, but they are spoilers~

    Luke was raised in an incredibly religious household-- in fact, his father was a priest. However, he wasn't a nice priest. When he was five years old, Luke watched him beat his mother for giving birth to an illegitimate "demon child" that he refused to name.

    Surprisingly, his younger brother wasn't killed, as their father thought that he could purify him. Luke was unconvinced that his younger brother was a demon at all, but had to watch the "purification rituals" with his mother as they occurred. Some were violent.

    When Luke and his brother were four and eight, they became in charge of the cathedral's menial maintenance tasks. The priest would beat them if they failed to complete them well. Luke spent much of his childhood trying to take the brunt of the priest's anger, but to no avail-- he would take his rage out on his brother even if he hadn't done anything wrong, and kept him in a far wing of the cathedral. He was never allowed to see others, and while Luke wasn't allowed to be seeing him, sometimes they would sneak out of their rooms to meet.

    Luke never made many friends at school and did no extracurriculars, spending all of his time at the cathedral, "home". He was still living there when he was nineteen. His father murdered both his brother and mother, but he didn't witness it-- he only learned a few hours later that they were dead. He was told that both of them committed suicide because they were "sinful and unworthy".

    Luke felt that he had failed as a brother and as a son. He had nothing left, and recited a long prayer before hanging himself from one of the spires. He had a dream, though he only remembers being berated for committing the cardinal sin. Upon regaining consciousness, he realized that he had wings, robes, a scepter, and a shaming halo of rope. And he wasn't in heaven-- he was still stuck on Earth. He tried many times after that to kill himself again and again, but it never worked. He would have to wait, conscious, while his body repaired itself slowly.

    And when he re-awoke first, "Luke" was replaced with some wheels; spinning around and around and around infinitely, never allowed to rest. Ophanim.
