    zavaria is in a constant state of struggling. as much as he would like to abandon all hope of upholding a dignified appearance, the people around him desperately want otherwise. gods forbid anyone let him return to his old ways of flaunting attire covered in viscera, grease, soot, ash, rotting food and whatever other grime he refused to clean off himself. still, as often as he can he will put his efforts into his work and passions instead.

    between a crippling phobia of water and the daunting task of keeping himself clean, he has come to begrudgingly accept aid from anyone willing to offer it. it's a tedious and pointless waste of time in his eyes, but he does find it nice to walk into a room and not have everyone react with immediate repulsion to his existence for once.

    there's minimal interest in the creative arts, but zavaria still has a keen eye for painted works. the only time he's ever tried painting for himself resulted in a series of frantically-made sickening horrors, remembering the feeling of being out of control and desperate, and has not dared to try again since.

    there's always something... there. no matter where he turns, they linger at the corner of his eyes, around corners, hiding in all the cracks and crevasses they can get into. they can be seen by others who pay close attention, but they all seem to be following zavaria and he doesn't care why. he just wants it to stop.

    “people killing people for no reason.”
    people and all their weird attitudes, habits, way of life and whatever else all only cause confusion and disdain. what zavaria does understand, however, is beyond what the normal folks can. the guilt of it all remains with him, but he can't seem to put it into words. probably for the better.

    “he's sick, it's not right to keep him like this.”
    there's always been an interest in herbs, it was rare that he ever got to see any that weren't obliterated by fire and death. but they do not like to cooperate with his touch and become prone to turning into abominations and horrors. zavaria doesn't understand why, all he can do is hope someone finds a use for these herbs.

    “you're going to get someone killed.”
    if anyone has ever caught zavaria dancing, no they haven't. if they know what's good for them, no they haven't. still, he's able to use everything from his combat days to do elaborate dances. he especially likes to throw fire into the mix, but he would rather die than let anyone see his moves.

    “i can't, it was never finished.”
    perfecting the violin was one of his greatest accomplishments. when played right, the violin was capable of such lovely sounds that let zavaria block out the world. shame he has thick hands and webbed fingers that prevent him from being able to play any stringed instrument.

    “you've always been a delicate disaster.”
    it didn't matter what terrors a creature was capable of, he wanted to pet it. it was like they had no fear of him, no concern for what he was capable of and was able to bend them to his will. but now he's petrified of just about any beast that comes near him, no matter how friendly they are.

    “skin and bones and brains and blood.”
    a conqueror of sorts, one with a competitive drive and the skills in overcoming adversaries like no other. taking on crowds and piling up the bodies was easy back then, now zavaria can't even walk through them peacefully without feeling some level of guilt and fear in the pit of his stomach.

    “ain't a damn thing you can do about it.”
    there are no words for how incredibly lucky everyone is that zavaria's beefy hands prevent him from being able to use more delicate firearms. there would never be a moment of peace again. alas, all he can do is make blueprints and hope one day someone hires him to make it for them.

    the sympathy and kindness of taking care of the injured, ill and dying gave him vast knowledge of medicine. but with time, he's become unable to connect with people anymore and his inability to understand them left him with rudimentary medicine skills. the care he has for people remains, he's just not so friendly.

    “it's all part of the process. you'll feel amazing.”
    zavaria's abilities in combat are terrifying as is, meticulous and focused. but even worse, he seems to hold memories of developing masterful techniques to counter just about anyone that faces him. those skills would probably be more useful if he wasn't a pacifist.

    “you play the part of savior.”
    all the destruction, all the chaos, he remembers. zavaria's body is incapable of magic, but wild magic is something else entirely beyond his control and it's stuck to him like a parasite. he suspects it's why he keeps accidentally turning things into golems, but nobody can ever be too sure with wild magic.
