Performance Arts ![]() Soleil is well practiced in a number of performance arts. Specialized acts include mesmerizing movements upon the trapeze, tightrope, aerial silk, giant hoop, unicycle, and various other types of equipment and sets. Many traditional dance styles are familiar to him as well, but he specializes in waltz, tango, and ballet. While these arts are his passion, he also knows a variety of sleight of hand magic tricks and stunts. |
Escape Artistry ![]() For Soleil, getting out of a dangerous situation was not solely a stage performance. He had mastered more practical aspects of escape artistry before becoming a performer, including slipping loose from ropes or other constraints, squeezing through small openings, picking locks even at awkward angles. He lives up to the phrase, "If it can't hold water, it can't hold a goat." |
Supernatural Talent ![]() Rarely, a true master of performance arts will develop magic through the sheer eminence of their craft. Soleil is one such virtuoso. Unlike the hard magic of, say, a wizard with a tome of spells, Soleil's magic is mysterious and incomprehensible. Often, he does not call on it intentionally. Instead, usually his magic intuitively enhances his performances. Sometimes aesthetically , with shimmering lights illuminating his form or gossamer mist adding allure to his movements. Sometimes practically, letting him defy gravity or giving him impossible precision of movement. |
Underworld Connections ![]() Soleil's youth as a underworld goon wasn't for nothing. He did his best to make as few enemies and as many friends as possible. He can call in a favor from a dubiously powerful character in just about any locality. He has easy access to black markets or backroom trades. His life among crime also gives him a lot of seedy knowledge, such as being able to identify drugs or counterfeit currency. |
Celebrity ![]() As a widely known, beloved, and extremely well paid performer, Soleil can make himself comfortable in any high class event. His wealthy fans are quick to invite him to visit their estates, meaning he never wants for adequate accommodations. |
Your typical underworld errand boy. He was well liked by various cartel leaders or mob bosses, just by virtue of being a funny little guy who did what he was told. He made a lot of friends in low places. When he wasn't doing small tasks for big time criminals, he honed many talents - acrobatics, magic tricks, danger acts. But busking didn't put food in his belly, so for a long time it was simply a side hustle.
An up and coming star of the entertainment world. One of his underworld bosses takes a shine to him, becomes a patron to support his art and help him book shows. He starts off performing at small parties of wealthy socialites, or luxurious venues in well-to-do districts. A far cry from his typical street performances. Soon, he learns that his performances are an excuse for his patron to establish himself in high society without suspicion. He was still just an underworld pawn. It hurts his young pride. But the pain fades quickly. He's used to the morally dubious by now and there were worse ways of being used.
Soleil Travere became a household name, synonymous with peak artistic expression and showmanship. He became a celebrity in his own right, but decided the underworld connections were still worth keeping. At least, it wasn't worth the trouble it would cause to severe them. He still had to get his hands dirty but he was obscenely rich and famous. The fame would go to his head quickly.
And now, a fall from grace. Soleil had dipped his hands in many a crime, but he left the violent crimes to the experts. So imagine his confusion when he finds the city littered with wanted posters accusing him of regicide of all things. In a flash he was on the run, barely any time to collect his favorite trinkets, finest clothes, and heaviest purse. The challenge wouldn't be surviving, really. He grew up on rough back streets, after all. No, the challenge now was returning to a life of anonymity.
