The Deckard Booth Series: A series of books that he's most famous for writing. A harken back to more hardboiled crime fiction, the main character, Deckard Booth, starts the first book as an amateur investigator who infiltrates an underground mob casino and learns its inner workings as a blackjack dealer so that he can find clues to the murder of his gambling addict father. Though it was originally intended to be a one off, the popularity of the character encouraged Elliot's publishers to push him on a continuation, which lead to a few follow ups that involve him remaining involved in the world of high stakes illegal gambling and the crime that surrounds it, relying on his keen instinct for gambling and reading people's intentions and tells to get to the bottom of the mysteries he's dragged into. The May Poole Series: Published under a pseudonym (Margret Baxter), though has now been let slip that they are his works. They're a series of cozy fair play mysteries. The main character, May Poole, is a retired widow who has given over her time to her passion as a tea sommelier, which she has received some recognition and acclaim for while she lives mostly in her comfortable small coastal New England town of Gladswille. She possesses a quick wit and a love of puns and other terrible jokes, which as frequently as her encyclopedic knowledge of herbs and tea ingredients end up helping her solve the mysteries she's involved in.
