Yet another, random night she lay beside him, watching him rest. He lay on his belly, his face turned toward her, and his arm draped possessively over her midsection. In repose, he reminded of her when they had first met. He looked at ease, satisfied, comfortable. Once upon a time, his days had been filled with much laughter and easy smiles, but years and age had changed that. It was a lifetime ago that she had first come into his arms, and though they had parted many times since then, they always came back together somehow, even if it was only for a single night. She had hated and loved him, simultaneously; had given him three children; had wanted to kill him. Many tears had been shed, much blood had been spilled, and so many angry words spat over the decades. It had finally taken fate to make her realize her eternal love for him, though. In her most intense ire, it had spoken to her, reminding her that no matter what transpired, he was a part of her, and try as she might, she could never stop loving him. Inner peace had come when she came to that realization, and with it, an even stronger bond. He loved her the same, she knew, even when he sought the thighs of another. No matter how many he took, she was there at the back of his mind, reminding him of what was, and what could be when he was finally ready.
Oh, how they had made love. Their hands had been greedy, their mouths hungry, and their bodies on fire. Some of the hours had been almost violent, while others had been softer and more affectionate. And that final hour before dawn had been surreal and beautiful, slow and sensuous, and a release of the love borne a century before. He had fallen into slumber. She had remained awake, and in a rare moment, allowed herself to think over those hundred or so years…

Syric Senivid; an odd name for an odd man. Young, quiet, and almost shy, yet as handsome as any she had ever seen. She had stumbled into him by accident in a far off tavern, and the attraction had been immeadiate. Maybe it had been his eyes, or his smile, or even the way he held himself away from the others. Most of the males in the place were posturing idiots who took great joy in comparing how many kills they had beneath their belts and which woman they had taken to the sheets the night before. He spoke of none of it. He merely sat at a corner table, half concealed by the darkness and nursing a mug of strong whiskey. What had made her go over to him still remained a mystery to this day, but she did. He allowed her to sit when she asked, then the conversation tentatively began. She was newly arrived on the continent, having come from a place of decadence and utter sin. Her mind and body had become so tainted with it, that she felt she had to escape, and she did. Not to mention, she was nursing a broken heart. The conversation was pleasant and lasted a few hours before they went their separate ways. Two days passed before they encountered one another again in the same tavern. Truthfully, she had gone there again in hopes of seeing him. Eschewing the tavern, they had decided to seek the quiet of the outdoors, walking in the forest surrounding the place. More tidbits about one another revealed, and even a first, tentative kiss. It had been sweet, wonderful, and filled her with a warmth she had vowed never to know again.
Months passed, and they grew closer. So much laughter and many secrets shared, and trust built and strengthened. They finally made love by the dim light of a dying fire in a dark corner of that same forest. It had been beautiful and beyond compare. Each kiss had been a balm to her weary spirit, each touch a promise of the future to come. In between the ragged breaths and soft moans, they declared their love for one another. He asked her to be his; no, told her she was his, and she had readily agreed. Little did either of them realize that their fates had been sealed. The Gods, whether they believed in them or not, had been watching, and were pleased. So pleased, that they imprinted their souls with each other. Thus began a love affair that would transcend the ages, and even at one point, death.
