  • GROWING UP with two loving dads in Montréal, Canada was great. Especially when those two dads were French-Canadian Dermatologists, Kurtis Le Clerc, and Taiwanese-Canadian Queer Studies Professor- and activist, trans-man Joseph Wú. Growing up things seemed picture perfect from the outside perspective. A successful gay couple raising a fine young boy to be open to the world. They were all well-known in the area, well-liked, and were always fighting LGBTQAI2S+ Community rights doing projects, hosting events aside from their primary jobs. Sometimes all seemed a bit too much for Jay. The irony of his parents fighting to make a change and make sure no one felt left alone, Jay felt incredibly lonely most of the time. He loved his parents dearly but they always seemed to be much more interested in the people around them - at least from his own perspective - although their main goal was to create a safe space for their son to grow up in.

    THE INCIDENT. Kurtis and Joseph were on a trip to New York for a convention to speak about LGBTQAI2S+ rights. Things went smoothly, everything was great up until it happened. Apparently not all found their presence welcome as a raging homophobic man, Baudelaire, came up and beat both of them to death.

    AFTER THE INCIDENT things changed drastically. Several years went by with lawsuits, news articles, foster care, it was a whole thing where Julian lived and he hated it. (more to come ... aftermath, whatever)

    Personality traits and stuff
    - He loves art. Whenever he feels restless or just plain bored, he enjoy spending time looking at art in all its forms. His favorite place is that small art gallery across the street. He's pretty much a regular at this point. If he was the type who worked jobs he would've loved to become the curator of his own place or even that place.
    - He plays music, but not too well. It's a hobby and he dabbles on the piano sometimes. Learned it at an early age and this is how he's reminded of the good times with his parents back when they were alive and had time for him.
    - He's multilingual and speaks French, Mandarin, and English fluently and a little bit of Cantonese, however he has a hard time separating all of it. When he stops caring how it doesn't sound perfect, he speaks English with a French accent and a couple of Mandarin words here and there.

    - Rather calm but has very intrusive thoughts he's battling with on the daily. They scare him at times, thinking things "normal" people would never speak of. Sometimes, when it's been at its worst, he's tried to take his own life but never succeeded. He's impulsive and sometimes have a couple of manic episodes no one really have noticed - because he's quite good at masking.

    - Sexuality and identity was never easy although his parents did everything they could, to make him feel loved no matter what. Something they both missed when they were kids. However, there was a certain expectation to him, a certain pressure from everywhere - expecting him to be experienced and openly gay like his parents but it was never that simple for him. For some time he was sure he was straight and was scared of telling anyone, as it might seem "wrong" for some reason?

    - After his parents died a strange sexual desire grew as he saw the son of the man who killed his parents. It felt so wrong, but he couldn't stop obsessing over this guy. They're the about same age. He doesn't know where it comes from, he seeks danger, and perhaps he believes that kid is the danger he's searching for.
