  • The Story so Far...

    It's rare that a high-spec program like Vanity is seen on ships as small as The Placeholder. Few captains would be willing to shell out the exorbitant license fees for anything shy of a battleship or a large-scale logistics vessel. That's why the variant that is installed on The Placeholder is a hacked trial license. With only a few, minor limitations, the trial version of Vanity has served Ironside and his crew just as admirably as the full package could ever do. Sure, there might be a few bugs in the system - side effects of hacking into Fairwell's design and fiddling around a bit - but the pay-off was worth it. Vanity isn't just any ship-AI. She - (the default avatar takes the form of a woman and so Ironside tends to refer to it as a 'she')- has proved invaluable in countless, high-risk scenarios, when instantaneous and complicated calculations. Everything from steering the crew through debris laden asteroid fields, to providing remote hacking assistance, she does it all. Technically her core programming wouldn't permit her to take part in illicit activities like pirating but such inhibitions were removed and now she's practically a fully fledged member of the crew. Aye aye, captain!

    Product Description:
    Vanity aboard The Placeholder is a surprisingly independent entity. She is fully commited to serving the user and his employees but has, at times, deviated from direct instruction to instead resolve issues in a way that she deems more efficient.

    Vanity interacts with users via two main channels:
    u6KvPZj.jpg- Cyberspace: When viewed through computer screens or virtual reality helmets, Vanity takes the opulent form of a regal, golden woman with lightly tanned skin and eyes like miniature stars. Her form is elegant, feminine and quite otherworldly. Her ethereally perfect complexion fluctuates, occasionally breaking to display cracks or breakages, similar to a damaged painting. Golden roses will materialize and dissipate at random intervals in her vicinity and person.
  • rcpfJAV.jpg- Realspace: Vanity can be projected into the real world through the use of light-emitting holograms. Current holographic technology is not sufficient to provide her with an equally impressive appearance in realspace and so she will take a duller, colder, less tangible variant of her form. The quality of her projection is dictated by the level of hologram technology in the vicinity.
