I quietly shut the door to one of the guest rooms I'd left Roe in, having finally exhausted herself enough to fall asleep. It had been hours since Syunto had shown up with her, bleeding and crying and borderline hysterical as he'd carried her through the doorway. A sight I'd never have imaged seeing my usually confident and fearless friend in. The only words she had managed made little sense and I'd quickly directed Syunto to one of the rooms so I could help get her cleaned up. He and Leone had disappeared, albeit with some hesitation on the formers part, while I helped her to the en suite and got a warm bath running and treated the deep scrapes that marked her knees. She had still barely been coherent when I'd helped her into some of my clean clothes and settled her into bed, the only words making sense to me being 'Maya' and 'puppets'. Maya, at least, I understood clearly and I promised to go pick her dog up as soon as I could. Now that she'd finally drifted off I could slip away and do that for her, at least. I slid to Leones room, quickly throwing on my jeans and a pair of shoes beneath the oversized t-shirt of his I often wore when relaxing anymore. The scent of him a comfort around me.

I padded through the house, following the soft sound of Leone and Syuntos voices to the open door leading out to the back garden, slipping through it and pausing as I saw them in a serious conversation, Buma napping at their feet. Neither man looked like the usual image I was used to seeing, their faces drawn into tense frowns, and something in my gut twisted as I took a step forward to let them know about Roe asking for Maya. I didn't make it any farther than that when a sharp, burning scent hit my nose and my eyes immediately narrowed onto the source of the foul stench perched between Leones fingers. It was ridiculous, considering the situation, but a bubble of rage had worked it's way into my chest seeing the cigarette, and without more than half a thought I was storming across the wooden patio towards them. A soft, snake-like rattle vibrated in my chest, drawing both men's attention to me as I reached where they were perched, their conversation pausing but both sets of brows rising at the hell they no doubt saw on my face. Without a word I reached out, snatching the small cigarette out of Leones grip and refusing to even wince as the cherry of it brushed the side of my hand and burned the smooth skin there. I flicked it to the ground, sparks of ash scattering before the toe of my shoe came down on it and I leveled his stunned, stupidly beautiful face with a glare that could melt concrete. I sharply turned my attention onto Syunto, instead, and Leones lips pursed as he smothered a smile.
"Roe is worried about Maya, can you come with me to her place to pick her up?" Whatever was going on, I wasn't stupid enough to think either of them were going to let me out of this house on my own.
Admittedly, I wasn't sure I even wanted that myself. I'd felt on edge for weeks, and clearly there was a reason for it. Syunto offered up an unsure look Leones way, and whatever he saw there had him giving me a curt nod and tiny smirk before turning and heading back for the door. Leone cooed a soft, "Bella..." My way, like I was being unreasonable. And I was, but in that very moment I didn't care, and rather than respond I turned sharply on my heel and stalked after Syunto, Leones exasperated voice following me as he spoke to the sleeping pup at his feet, "I think moms upset..." The mildly amused tone making my cheeks flare with heat as i stormed back inside. Finding him waiting by the front door for me, Syunto quickly follow me out without a word as I tugged the door open and pounded down the steps. Making a bee line for my own car and climbing into it. I caught a brief glimpse of Leone leaning against the front doorway, arms crossed, as I pulled out of the driveway, and one look at Syunto showed him trying to smother a grin at the tantrum I was very clearly throwing. To his credit, though, he kept quiet the whole drive to Roes apartment. Following me up and almost seeming to know exactly where he was going as we found her door and I quickly pulled out her keys to unlock it.

We were immediately greeted by 140lbs of excitement bounding down the hallway, Maya boofing loudly as we stepped in and her whip like tail smacking against anything in it's way as we both stepped inside. It took the Dane less than 10 seconds to realize her mom wasn't with us and her large ears dropped dramatically, her excitement deflating like a balloon. I slid my hand over her large,  dappled forehead, my nose crinkling as the small burn scraped against her soft fur.
"Don't worry, we're going to go see mom, and you'll even get to see Buma. You won't believe how big he's already getting." I cooed sweetly at the large dane, giving her a quick kiss between her large eyes before walking towards the living room while Syunto lingered by the doorway. I quickly gathered up Mayas leash, attaching it to the dazzling collar at her throat before heading back towards the door. Without a word Syunto held it open and we slipped back out, locking everything back up and heading quickly back down and to my car.

Navigating Maya into the small backseat was an exercise in patience, as was the whole car ride back to Leones place with a panting, slobbery Danes head wedged between Syunto and I. Madsen would no doubt sob if he saw the drool marks on the upholstery and I'd have to make sure to get the poor seats detailed before he ever saw them. The drive was more or less quiet between us, only the occasional admonishment leaving my lips at Mayas insistence on being actively involved in the driving process. Once we'd pulled back into the driveway of Leones home Syunto slipped out smoothly, opening the back seat and grabbing Mayas leash before I'd even opened my door. For a moment I was surprised at her being comfortable with a stranger walking her towards the house, but as he spoke I was rather quickly reminded that I was supposed to be mad.
"I'll take her to Roelyn. I do believe you have a fight to get to."
The lilt of amusement in his voice made me scowl and I slammed the completely innocent door to my car with a sharp, Russian curse shot his way. His only answer a lilting laugh as he made it up the stairs and stepped inside with Maya. For half a second I hesitated, considering leaving and sleeping at my own apartment tonight, but a chilled feeling hit my neck and I shuddered. Like eyes on me and I turned a look over my shoulder. Naturally nothing was there, but my steps to the house were much faster than I'd liked to admit as I safely tucked myself back inside. Something about it always feeling like an impenetrable wall nothing could ever get me behind.
A quick look around showed no sign of Leone, though I could hear Syunto trying to wrangle an excited Buma away from Maya somewhere down the hall. Leaving him to that challenge I headed towards Leones bedroom, stepping inside and immediately being greeted by the sound of the shower on in the bathroom. A soft snort left me - at least he wouldn't reek of smoke when he came back into the bedroom. I quickly swapped my jeans for a loose pair of grey sweatpants and snatched up one of my textbooks, flopping across the bed with it and rolling onto my stomach. I cracked it open, trying to focus on the words in it's pages rather than Roe or the completely irrational anger I was feeling over Leone simply smoking. It's not like Crina and Madsen didn't, though I'd obviously never seen the appeal. Maybe I was just missing something super enjoyable- then again, if the smell was an indicator, I highly doubted that. My nose crinkled at the memory, and I heard the water shut off as Leone finished his shower. I spent several minutes pretending to read as he puttered around before he opened the bathroom door an stepped back into the bedroom. He pushed a long sigh from his nose as he prowled towards me, and that soft rattle started back up deep in my chest. A noise that slipped out whenever I was annoyed. I refused to let his charming, handsome face pull me out of the mood I'd decided to be in. I felt the bed dip as he settled next to me, his fingers finding a strand of my hair and absently stroking it as he spoke, "I understand your upset with me. I didn't realize it was an issue for you, I'm sorry." He sounded completely sincere, but I still puckered my lips in a small pout, keeping my attention on the page in front of me that I hadn't even remotely read a word from. At my silence he shifted closer, till he could get his hand around my waist and roll me onto my back towards him instead.  Forcing me to look at him and making my cheeks immediately heat finding him with his damp hair loose around his decidedly very bare shoulders, only a dark towel secured around his waist. He was fighting dirty, and my scowl only deepened as he leaned down to settle in beside me, propping his head up with his hand so he could still  gaze down at me. Those stupid, gorgeous green eyes would be the death off me, but I put up a good fight keeping my look of annoyance on my face, though that smooth rattle had lost some of its strength. "Have I ever told you you are adorable when you're angry. Like a soft little bunny rabbit throwing a tantrum." Without thinking I threw my hand at him, aiming to punch whatever I could get access to, but he caught my wrist and quickly pinned it, and my other one, beside my head against the mattress with a breathy chuckle. I scowled, that deep vibration in my chest making my whole body shudder as I shot him a glacial look, "I am not cute. Its threatening." Even I wasn't convinced, and Leone clearly wasn't as his head dipped, his lips finding the soft line of my jaw with a kiss.

"I could kill you with half a breath," I weakly reminded him, though we both knew I'd never even consider such a thing.
"You could." I squirmed, and he chuckled, pulling back so I could look at his face once more though he kept my wrists firmly secured against the bed. "I really am sorry. "Did he tell you what happened?" My question came with a wrinkle of his brows until he caught my train of thought, and then he nodded softly. "It sounds like she was attacked by an old clan that hasn't been seen in a very long time." The dip between his brows deepened and he went quiet for a long moment. I squeezed his handle gently, urging him on. "I suspected they were back after that attack in the city, but I couldn't get much out of Syunto or my sister. I'd bet they somehow realized Roe was important to him and took her as an easy way to get to him." Leone looked apologetic as he spoke, his own fingers squeezing mine while my eyes rolled softly.
"I swear the only people who don't seem to realize they care about each other, is them." I puffed an exasperated breath through my lips and Leone smirked at me, his thumb brushing over the top of my hand in comforting circles. He paused when the pad of his finger touched the rough burn from earlier and he lifted our hands to his lips, placing a soft kiss to the raised skin and whispering a soft apology.
"I'm sure he's already called Dabria, but I'll go talk to her in the morning. Try and get more information. Roes free to stay here as long as she needs to, you know that." His generous offer made me smile as he added on, "Besides, I'm sure Bumas thrilled to spend time with Maya." The soft upturn of one side of his lips saying he knew all too well that the fluffy menace was no doubt harassing the poor Dane to within an inch of her sanity.
"Thank you. I have a feeling we'll be seeing a lot of Syunto, in that case, too." I said with my own smirk, though it fell flat rather quickly. I slid forward after a second, tucking myself in against his chest. Our hands unwound themselves from each other and instead he shifted both of his arms around me, tucking his chin against my hair. "Think this is why I've felt so.... on edge?" I mused quietly against him. It had been weeks since I'd felt comfortable outside these four walls, my skin constantly prickling. His fingers roamed in gentle strokes up and down the bare expanse of my back, tracing over the lines of my tattoos and making me shiver and arch softly in his arms, my heavy lids drifting shut under his soothing touch.
