The end, or the beginning..?

Right amidst the battlefield…strongest mage assassin as well as the commander of the frontlines of the Eastern Empire collapses. After quite a while…the old man opens his eyes only to find the emperor looking down at him. There were doctors, and other subjects all around him, all looking at him with their concerned gazes. The doctor had clearly announced that the fallen mage had only a few more minutes.

The emperor of the eastern empire was a kind soul…and even in a situation like this, where his empire was in danger, he worried for the mage. The soldiers surrounding the mage’s deathbed try to hold back their tears….this old man had led them through the struggles of life, and now… they were losing this great leader to the law of life itself.

“..How am I supposed to die happy if all of you are so sad…?”
The man finally says, gazing at the rest with his twinkling eyes.
“ Your Majesty….I am grateful to you for everything you have given this old man for all these years. Knights….please do not fret over this. You have a beautiful, bright future ahead of you.”
Saying, the mage closes his eyes. Yet another droplet falls into the ultimate pool of death.

A bright light shines before the mage’s eyes, and a young woman comes into his sight. She seems to be radiating all this light and positivity with her divine presence.

“…I, the Goddess of Nature…stand before you today. All your life….you have been nothing but a pure human with a pure heart- soul not tainted in the least. I am overly pleased with you, so make a wish, and I will fulfil it as much as I can.”

The heavenly spirit’s voice echoes. The fading soul remains silent for quite a while before finally speaking up.

“…I am not worth the boon, Goddess.”

“…But it is my wish to fulfil your wish.”

Replies the divine voice, constantly radiating light and energy.

“…If that is the case, Mother….I want to experience more and gain more knowledge of the world….for which, I wish to be reborn.”
The dying mage says back in return after a few thoughtfully silent moments.

“…It’s as you wish, then.”

In her past life…Rafinya was a mage-assassin who worked directly under the Emperor of the Eastern Empire, and went by the name ‘Eugene’. Eugene was one of the Emperor’s most trusted men and not to mention the strongest mage of his time. Before being a mage.. he used to work under the Emperor as his spy, given his exceptional abilities in espionage and infiltration. His prowess in magic was something he developed a lot later….which is why the title ‘mage-assassin’ was framed for him. Eugene was then kept in charge of the imperial army itself. A nice, true man as he was…Eugene was always true to his word and work, despite the ‘assassin’ in him. He was admired, loved, and respected by all the soldiers as he flawlessly led them through the ups and downs of life, all while protecting the empire.


Rafinya remembers her complete past life….and in this life, she’s determined to learn a lot more new things and gain more experience. Since the day she’s been reborn, she has been able to use her mana. However….the people around her seem to have forgotten about magic itself. Maybe it was the timing of her birth? Mana had not faded away….the people merely had forgotten how to control it. Mages no longer exist like they used to….or that’s what it seems. She decides to keep everything….from her rebirth to her still steady mana flow…..a secret.
