Onyx Sentinel X-2

The X-2 Onyx Sentinels are tall metallic humanoids with animal-like details and a distinctive avian head to stay in line with corporate requisites, painted with a sleek black and purple color scheme. Through their system flows the latest in R&D extravaganza, the RSS-patented liquid fusion responsible for their pulsating neon glow. The X-2 series ditches tungsten and conventional alloys in favor of the newly discovered R'yklenite. Their updated software allows integration of an Automaton Personality Core, such as the one present in this particular unit. Unlike their predecessors, the Onyx Sentinels X-2 are statistically incapable of suddenly exploding. The unit has asked corporate to be refered to as "Neon" and recently accepted a prudent work contract.

X-2 Onyx Sentinels are fitted with cutting edge combat software, granting them expertise with a wide variety of small arms, heavy weapons, tactics and defensive manouvers. They're given modular slots in their forearms for the installation of auxiliary attachments, such as forcefield generators, deployable riot shields, plasma blasters or flamethrowers. Their R'yklenite armor is capable of withstanding moderate damage with minimal mobility loss, and our modular design philosophy has culminated in easier, cheaper maintenance.

Needing to address a robot formally by the title of our "newest hire" is something I thought I'd never do in my professional life. Corporate didn't quite believe personality cores would be so powerful (despite palpable evidence) and decided they'd pop one into an X-2 Sentinel. The face on Mr. Vanderbilt was worth more than the robot itself; as soon as we activated it, the metal giant began asking silly questions such as "where am I" or "what is my purpose". We didn't take it seriously until it started threatening Raven legally and citing the Robotic Worker's Act. Turns out artificial intelligence is real, and it was caused by workplace injustice.

Neon has been a mixed bag since. Its combat capabilities have nearly tripled compared to standard X-2 units and it has already completed a succesful deployment to R'yklen V. While results speak for themselves, having a walking, talking hunk of metal capable of mass obliteration upon swapping a 1 for an 0 has everyone on edge. Neon isn't an unpleasant personality persé; it communicates its thoughts clearly and diligently, albeit slightly rudely. It doesn't seem to understand what constitutes a social faux pas, or at least it doesn't really care. Who would've thought robots find socializing more difficult than differential calculus.

We'll keep an eye on the thing. Lead designer Marco volunteered to keep Neon monitored. Either we have a real tool of destruction on our payroll or we'll wind up dead in our sleep. Given how yesterday it started wearing clothes to "respect company standards", I'm willing to remain optimist just this time.
